... if he is not given sufficient first team action. There are several reports out there and this just happens to be the one I picked up as a link http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/s...-fabianski-may-consider-arsenal-exit?&cc=5739 Well, first of all, not many players of his age would want to stay in the absence of first team selection. To lose him though would mean that our only backup GK would be our old friend Manuel. I would rather have Fabianski in that role if we were reduced to that. I would prefer that both were gone and we had brought in Shay Given or Mark Schwarzer but those opportunities are long gone. What do you make of this guys?
Vito Mannone would be an able back up keeper Robin, although I see some great potential in Fabianski I don't think it's fair that he left on the bench long term. Might be worth him going on loan for a season but if we got a decent offer for him I think it would be fair for us to let him move on and try and better himself through first team action...
If we'd bought Given or Shwarzer,Chesney would be warming his arse on the bench now and how long do you think one of potentialy the world's best keepers would have stood that for ?
I was thinking that had we bought Schwarzer in January of this year, Chesney could have learned from him and also he would have covered Chesney when the latter picked up that injury against Barca. Chesney need not play all the available games so that would give Schwarzer some 1st team time and we would be nurturing Chesney's skill along the way. If and yes I know if is a big word, might the odd mishap have been avoided such as the misunderstanding at the CL final had Schwarzer played. Like I said, if. I don't think having Schrwarzer on board even as early as the summer before would hurt. There are more positives to be had IMHO. Now as for Fabianski - I'm assuming we can let him go?
i think we can afford to get rid of fabianski AND almunia if they want to leave. with vito as back-up, damian martinez looks a prospect as well. tbh, you only really need 3 goalies, we have about 5...
The problem is Arsenal need strength in depth. With Chesney & Fabianski they finally have two decent goalkeepers. I'm not as afraid any more when Fabs steps between the sticks. If he goes, Arsenal are back to one good goalkeeper, and one inexperienced and not-so-good one. An experienced head would be my choice - perhaps still Schwarzer. Someone who can coach Chesney while keeping himself in shape and filling in when required.
Fabianski is a total butter fingers and a clutz ! I say don't let the door hit you on the way out bloke !!
Despite improving he still nowhere near Chensey's quality. Not to mention the difference in mentality between the two. So if he wants to leave then goodbye. We could bring in an experienced back up. Somone like Thomas Sorensen.
