Mike effectively put the shop under Frasers Group; so the whole gig was just parts of Sports Direct. Redundancy means his whole contract set up - notoriously bad as it is with all the zero hour crap - is being ripped up meaning he’s either sold off the shop arm or sold the whole thing. I can’t see how he’s simply closing the club shop as that makes no sense. At all. When everything is due to reopen today,

Basically from my brief scan of the last two pages is:

HOF/MA are making all club shop staff redundant and shops "closing"
Shops will re open once "redecorated"

Anyone who thinks Ashley will keep the club shops is off their nut. He managed some deal at Rangers as they were bleeding money still and needed some help. The new owners (whoever they are) will not throw a stream of revenue down the drain just to appease Ashley when paying a couple of hundred million on the club. If the shops are changing hands it will be new owners coming through the door.

All of this completely hypothetical though until evidence is seen that staff are to be made redundant.

Why would the new owners want to make the staff redundant? Seems a very unpleasant way to start up

Can you? Or is it some sly Ashley scheme to shave off a few wages?

Any new owners, whoever they may be, wouldn't be making staff redundant, that would be by HOF.
    The stores would be closed.

I don't think I understand all this, but I'm going to suggest he just wanted to oust some staff.

I mean he wouldn't want to keep paying anyone on zero hours while the shop was shut
Sorry I'm not very good with all this stuff.

sorry to point out the obvious but SD always used to have 'closing down' events/sales.
Does anyone know anyone who works in a SD shop? if so did they receive a letter at all?

If they are on SD/HOF contracts it's probably a good thing for the staff in terms of actual contracts and probably wages as well. Would also make sense in re-incorporating the shops back in to the club.

    I don't think there's anything in it.

Business as usual is my guess

Im usually wrong, but it seems very significant to me. Frasers making people redundant means Ashley is closing (selling) the club shop and shop operations. Now it may be he’s further asset stripping the club and has sold the retail side of NUfC to someone else, but that seems ludicrous and completely against Frasers strategy. The most logical explanation is it has been sold entirely and rather than a new owner take on his Sports Direct contracts, he’s trimming them all off the Frasers turnover sheet early ahead of new ownership. New owners would then invite previous staff to apply for their own jobs. This happened to a family member of mine with the takeover of one of the outdoor wear companies recently. It’s very common. Legal folk will clear this up better than me, but far as I can see it’s a potentially big sign that Ashley is gone.

Oops, looked into it more - silly me. It’s basically Mikes latest commercial **** up; in selling our kit to the ****ing horrendous ****ers at Castore for well under market value, he’s also given them the club shop which they will refurbish just like they did with Rangers. So all told just looks like another asset strip by the fat ****ing twat.

Is this just you making an assumption? If not, this once again doesn't look like the sign of a club about to be sold.

Its VERY similar to what happened at Rangers when Castore took on their kit - they took on the shop, rebranded it and in the meantime got rid of old staff.

It looks like further asset stripping ahead of a sale (at reduced price), but it sure as **** doesn’t look like a sale is imminent whatsoever.
