Just before my time but remember his name being mentioned countless times by my dad and uncle when talking about City. RIP. https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/memory-colin-baker
He was in the first City team I ever saw. I also went to Sunday School with his nephew Duggie who introduced me on a number of occasions. Colin was a real gentleman with no side to him whatsoever. I've never seen a man so proud as when he showed his Welsh cap and shirt to us admiring kids. RIP Colin
Colin Baker and Alan Harrington lodged in my street with a Mrs Mahony...I remember well. A real gent, both were and now gone! In later years Jimmy McInch stayed there....a fiery character! Colin did well for himself talent wise, a good innings! RIP
Ahh, "lodging with a Mrs Mahony" - the way things were. Sadly I think that's a thing of the past that we'll never see again - these days players want a penthouse apartment if they come on trial. Even just a few years back (2006/2007 maybe), the club "bought" a couple of newly built exec house in Corntown just outside Bridgend for Steve McPhail and Michael Chopra. I was involved in the spec and met them both on site. McPhail took it virtually off plan but Chop's fiance changed practically everything. Mike wasn't bothered about it but was more put out because there wasn't a betting shop in the village......
The bookies on Broadlands, Bridgend were pleased to see him. I think they made up a camp bed in the corner for him. Might have been best friends with Rob Howley.
When you say Mike you were talking about the foreman right? Not Mr.Chopra surely? You’ll be calling him Chops next!
Odd that you mention Rob Howley there Bluey - very strange. Funnily enough he also had a house in Corntown just up the road from Chops as well. Not sure about the timing though, but must have been built around the same time and built by a guy I used to play football with in my youth. What you jest about could well have a basis in truth. Different sport, same addiction - I don't regard myself quite in that category though..........
Very true Sparks, too much money, too much time on their hands and not enough intelligence to put it to better use. I mean Chops and Howley of course not you.
