Sources: Lansdown jetting to England today for Bristol City manager talks

Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown is set to travel to England on Monday for key talks with the board over their managerial situation, Football Insider has learned.

Nigel Pearson has not had the desired effect since being appointed to succeed Dean Holden in February of this year.

A source at Ashton Gate has told Football Insider that the board will discuss whether or not to keep hold of the 57-year-old as manager.

It comes after a goalless draw at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday – the Robins’ fifth consecutive game without a win.

Pearson’s side, who currently sit 14th in the Championship, have scored just one goal since a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City in mid-March.

In total, Pearson has taken charge of nine games for Bristol City, with two wins, two draws and five losses in that time.

Speaking after Pearson’s appointment on 22 February, Lansdown said: “Nigel gives us the leadership and direction we need to lift the players’ confidence and to turn our form around.

“The initial appointment is until the end of the season, when we will reassess the situation, hopefully with a view to the long term.”

However, the manager’s long-term future at Ashton Gate is now in serious doubt, less than two months after he arrived.

Pearson is currently enduring his worst spell as a manager, with Bristol City averaging just 0.89 points-per-game during his tenure.

The Englishman has never had a points-per-game average lower than 1 in any of his previous seven jobs in management.

I expect it will all end in tears like it usually does. Lansdown has a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory where the football club is concerned.

We’re all aware the squad needs an overhaul, or at the very least a major injection of talent. Nige is the perfect person to get it done . If however SL does not see it that way then I doubt Nige will be interested now he’s had time to assess just how bad we are.

I for one will not be renewing my SC until I have an idea of our direction of travel.

Well the majority of the fans are still behind him for now.
I’m not convinced but I don’t want him sacked yet. I’m still giving him the benefit of the doubt.
We’ll see how we are after the January window closes.

The January transfer window should show us, in some way or another, how NP intends to move us forward for the rest of this season and the next. Whether we will be able to find decent players who want to join us is up for question but whoever shows up have to give us better performances than the current bunch and regrettably if they turn out to be duffers then the supporter's chains will really start rattling. Nigel's tenure will surely be brought in to question if we continue to flub our lines going ahead towards March and if that happens I can't see a contract extension. The nice words have been whispered around Ashton Gate for an age and a bit and despite those words the follow up action has been tame and misdirected in so many cases. Come on Nigel we want you to succeed and good luck breaking the bank doors open and keeping the transactions sensible.

Yes I agree - assuming we manage to stay in the Championship.

If we get relegated then that would pose a whole new set of challenges on the recruitment front.

It was quite a job different ways to look at the intensity of it though! ... in 3 years prem?
SO half a season to get us to season21/22 a bit of freebie... it would be what it would be .... it was a disaster!
Summer the first constant reduce wage bill, practically no money to spend ..... so got rid of £xxx wages and replaced by £xx wages and added another "coach" .... all looked good, but has fallen apart! 20 games played and hovering around relegation zone....
Mid season transfer window .. I do not believe in them and players are to expensive clubs happy to get shot of poor players for OTT fee's / clubs PAY OTT fee's for lower standard players!
End of season 21/22 finish in top 10/12 where he took over with a different squad "mentally and of slightly better quality[ improved youngsters] " Some money to spend to replace "aging or not deemed good enough players!
Needs 3 more summer windows the third what players we need in the prem!!!!!

so far train is on wrong track .. brakes are dodgy and a sharp bend on the downhill, next downhill! stage is looming .......................

I'm not sure I agree with that if I'm honest.......he does, but only if we see an improvement with what he gets in January..
Too date, I'm yet to be convinced by his management with what we do have, regarding players.
Does he have it in him to change style, away from sitting back, allowing teams to take control and counter attacking, or defending a 1-0 lead rather than trying to put a game to bed.. which is proving not to work?
I don't care what people say regarding the squad he has to work with.......he IMO should be getting much better performances than we've had again IMO a lot of it is down to NP's setup and instructions..
Watford are losing more than winning in the Prem, but at least the performances are positive and they are making a game of it......against lesser teams, results should come.
As they say, if we are losing the battle, we should be going down with a fight......NP needs to get his finger out!

He has stated many times he has good ingriedients available to make a super cake ... so why has not managed it? IMO his philosphy is defence orientated .. could be why PS & KD was a foil he couldnt deal with! they were more attack minded! His way, take defensive control, fails because 1 goal conceeded needs 2 to win at worst get a point. Rooney at Derby has far more problems and hands tied than BCFC ... a first managers job about a year v 20 or more!! and realistically just 1 point behind us...
Maybe that was the problem at Leics?? got a squad together that was "average" played to defensively and Claudio came in went on attack and won the lge???? when you .... no wont go there!!!!!
