This is a breaking story and details may change, so I thought it was worth it's own thread.

As I type there is nothing about this on the BBC News or Sports website,
    but the following story is on the Sky Sports website;

    https://www.skysports.com/football/...ril-17-to-be-moved-for-prince-philips-funeral

My attention was drawn to this by a post on Dick Plumb's new forum.
The poster (mistakenly it seems) thought that all EFL matches next Saturday are going to be postponed - moved to another day.
No source was given for that.

According to Sky, kick-off times are going to be moved from 3pm (the time of the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral).
    To allow televised coverage presumably.
    NOT re-scheduled for different days.

I would guess fixture times will be moved forward to Midday or just after.
But I suppose some might be pushed back to 5pm or similar.
It would make sense to me for all 3pm scheduled fixtures to still kick off at the same time, just earlier.
But who knows how the details of these things are worked out.

Will update this story as soon as more information is available...

    The same story reported on the BBC website;

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56705816

This has apparently been on the site since 7pm yesterday, so I may have missed it when I checked in the early hours of this morning.
It gives no more details at present than the Sky report, beyond stating there are 32 fixtures that were due to kick off at 3pm, and that the funeral will be televised.

One reason for the rescheduling of kick-off times may be help to avoid differences and perhaps unseemly arguments, in households and other places (care homes for instance) where many people are watching the same TV set.
I does seem sensible for folks who wish to watch the funeral, probably many of them among the older generations, not to have to contend with others who may prefer to be watching live match coverage at the same time.
If there are no games actually being played at 3pm then nobody is going to have to feel upset by being denied their personal viewing wish.

If this change involved disrupting the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of football fans, it would be contentious.
But of course there are no fans at any games right now.
So any negative impact of moving kick-off times would appear to be minimal.

The games should be moved to Sunday. This day should be devoted to the funeral.

Moving the games to Sunday would probably be a non-starter with the Premier League :emoticon-0164-cash:

All the squealing we get already from PL managers about fixture pile-ups, because some of them have midweek European games.
    They would have gone bananas.
I expect the EFL would not be allowed to just move its own games to Sunday, as that would put the Premier League in the spot light and embarrass them.

Suits me. That way I can watch the game on Sunday and as I'm out all day on Saturday I won't have to watch, listen to or be bombarded with the sort of public wailing and outpouring of fake grief, not to mention the fawning and grovelling of BBC presenters, which hasn't been seen since the death of Diana.

For goodness sake, he was a very priviliged man who was given opportunities that virtually no one else is given merely because of who he was born to.

Nothing against him personally, but please just remember he had a life most of us can only dream of.

I think the BBC went a bit far, cancelling its entire TV schedule.
I know that would have been unquestioned 50 or 60 years ago. But times change.

I was surprised to hear ITV, Ch4 and Ch5 apparently did pretty much the same.
It's understandable that the BBC was in something of a no-win situation, and decided to ride the wave of complaints from viewers rather than face the wrath of MP's and the House of Lords (etc.)
But I thought Channel 4 in particular enjoyed nothing more than ridiculing the Royal Family.
So their sudden show of respect does seem odd.

I'd not want to be royalty, a restricted life. However, they deserve respect.
I agree with the outpouring of fake grief, but a death 'normally' is sad.

I watch C4 news, Lardy, and don't know where you get your idea from. It has easily the best coverage of international news, and the idea that it's all lefty woke stuff is a myth spread by people who don't watch it.

FHB, I presume there's a huge dollop of irony or sarcasm in your reply ? Surely ?

I mainly got my impression from the fake Queens Speech on Xmas Day ... which I'll admit I did not watch! :emoticon-0111-blush

Not at all, Ube. If you watch C4 News you will know that the international coverage has more depth to it than other terrestrial channels. It also has the ad vantage that the political correspondents are not too close to the Westminster politicians, which is presumably why Matt Hancock's interview last week was the first time for 2.5 years that a government spokesman has been available to answer questions when invited.
The other trustworthy source of News is Private Eye, which is usually streets ahead of Fleet Street for investigative journalism. At least one other poster on here is a Private Eye reader, and I think he will back me up.

So interesting FHB. I do watch C4 news occasionally but find the left wing bias and constant criticism of anyone in any sort of position of authority to be overwhelming and I usually turn it off before my blood pressure gets too high. I think any interrogation of the views of the likes of Cathy Newman and Jon Snow tell you all you need to know about why that is.

However, others think it is completely unbiased and merely trying to hold people to account and trying to balance the right wing agenda of all the other media !

You and I watch the same program but obviously see it completely differently and I'm sure we are representative of the differing views of tens of thousands of others. I genuinely find that very interesting, but can't understand it. Presumably perspective has something to do with it. I just find the polarisation of everything these days to be a real worry. People end up with hatred as their views get further and further apart and that leads to truly awful events and blind defence by whichever side caused them.

Somehow we all need to get back to respect for each others views and the closing of gaps, not ever widening them.

Anyway, next you'll be telling me that the editor of Private Eye isn't a raving leftie after all.

Ian Hislop, a raving leftie? Shurely shome mishtake. Private Eye is impartial, it lampoons anyone of any view, I read it every 2 weeks. I don't mind being called woke if you think that explains my views, but since most of the C4 news is devoted to foreign affairs I fail to see the leftie bias. They don't slavishly report all those photo-opportunities that Boris loves, and which the BBC news repeats., but I like that.

Yes. FHB has different names depending on whather he's logged on from PC or mobile.
Same avatar though, and he's always been open about having the two names while being the same person.
It's a technical glitch to do with passwords.
We'll sort it out one day.

Thanks Lardi. Just wanted to be sure who I was replying to...in which case, FHB - no I wouldn’t call you woke. I don’t really know what that means anyway, but it’s just a label and I don’t label people, as we’re all just humans. (My comment about Mr Hislop being a leftie was tongue in cheek btw)

I just find the whole perspective thing very interesting. Every conflict in the world is ultimately caused by different perspectives on the same material facts. We all just need to stop being so set in our views and listen more to other genuinely held opinions. As I said, we both watch the same C4 news, but it feels very different to each of us.

For my part, I shall commit to watching it again more often and try very hard to not have any pre-conceived ideas. I’ll report back with my findings.

As Lardy knows, I'm a technophobe, hence the problem. C4 news is probably the most depressing hours telly you can get, but it reaches parts of the world which probably only get reported on BBC World service otherwise. I find the other news channels are too cosy with Westminster, and it's left to the phone in radio stations to try to hold the government to account. They have been boycotting C4 news for a long time, and were boycotting the Today programme until Covid.
