Cavani? You bugger. Our forwards could learn something watching him.......and he's supposed to be "over the hill!"

Doubt winning the league cup will be enough to make him want to stay, Smithy.

The only lucky thing for us is that there's only about 2-3 clubs that can afford him so it's unlikely he goes unless someone stumps up the cash.

In some ways, sitting on a 1-0 lead looked like a good idea for Spurs today. Utd’s formula for success away from home is to absorb pressure and hit teams with pace on the counter. When teams sit deep, Utd play that soporific football, at walking pace, shifting the ball from side to side without hurting a well drilled defence.

But having players back is not the same as defending - and Spurs defence made crucial errors today. Firstly, allowing room and time for decent crosses into the box. Secondly, not reading the movement of Cavani. Thirdly, not clearing their lines when they had the chance. In the second half it allowed Utd to dominate possession in the Spurs’ half.

Mourinho has lost the plot I agree, but he can’t be blamed entirely for defenders not doing their jobs.

Sorry mate but I often wish the fans would just stay away rather than constantly pay such inflated prices. It's perfectly possible to run a team at the highest level WITHOUT exploiting fans. Germany can do it and produce one of the strongest teams in the world who charge a fraction of what they charge to see Spurs.

He can certainly be blamed for constantly chopping and changing our back line. We are now 50 or so games into the season and he still doesn't seem to have a clue who makes our strongest back line. It wasn't so long ago that our defence picked itself. A stable, consistent and settled unit can make a huge degree of difference, especially when you are holding on to narrow leads every week. You need a unit who are all on the same wavelength and anticipate each other's errors. Right now we are miles away from that.

Yeah, I agree totally. The solid back four you had broke up and the replacements have not yet proved to be adequate. Sanchez’s forms seems to have dropped off a cliff too. He needs to decide who his back four are and give them a run.

But he should still expect that players picked perform. Dier is an international player who couldn’t read where the ageing Cavani was going to run all afternoon.

Utd’s defence is now looking better than the sum of its parts because they are playing as a unit all the time.Still don’t inspire confidence though.

It's not even chopping and changing. It's like a constantly revolving door...with players dropped after a mistake and then brought back after their replacement does the same. The only consistency is that we play a system that makes mistakes highly likely as we give the opposition the ball and space to attack us.

Today's return of Dier indicates that Mourinho needs sacking tonight.

    I completely agree, Spurf.

I haven't been happy for ages about the prices I pay and I've said a few times on here that if they go up much further any time soon I'll be jacking it in. We have the highest prices in Europe, it's absolutely mental.

Penited players are rarely sent off, they always get the benefit of doubt, see Shaw at Old Toilet hacking down Lucas for all the evidence you need.

A large part of our defence going to pot comes down to losing our ability to control games in midfield due to Dembele and Wanyama breaking down at the exact same time, meaning that at the exact time we were trying to move into Phase 2 with Sanchez, Foyth and Winks either bedding in or becoming more regular members of the side with the Dembele/Wanyama partnership screening them so they could settle, we couldn't do that as injury or lack of fitness meant one or both were not in the team, and while Sissoko was signed to give some cover in midfield the issue is his game lacks the x-factor that Dembele had going forward or the solidity Wanyama offered when defending

Now this could have been fixed in the summer of 2018 if we looked to rebuild midfield, but the combination of the bungled approach for Ndombele and a lack of any concrete move for a new DM (further exacerbated by our poor squad composition, as we were at our HG limit) put that on the back-burner where it's remained until now

I know playing "What if...?" isn't exactly going to get us anywhere, but if we binned off Janssen and Nkoudou that summer and brought in (for the sake of adding a name) Axel Witsel, who was available that summer as the Chinese league was losing its lustre and/or lucre, our team would have a spine instead of a toothpick

The consequence of that is there is no one who can challenge them though. Being a successful club has always been rooted in having more money than anyone else. The only thing that has changed is the scale. In 1965 £1m would have bought you a championship winning team. Allowing for inflation that's £17m today which buys you Doherty. You literally need more than 50 times as much money to be successful now. Not sure who is going to shell out except fans. The club is doing its best to get more money from merchandising but that also comes from fans in the end as does TV money.

He choses Sanchez and Dier and ignored Rodon and Tanganga most of the season while choosing Sanchez and Dier.
The whole of the footballing world knows they are broken but one or both of them plays every week.
This week two of Alderweireld/Rodon/Tanganga should have started but yet again Dier played.

This type of thing is repeated with Doherty, Davies and Aurier.

On top of this we go a goal up v Newcastle, Arsenal, Palace, Newcastle (again), West Ham (three up), Fulham, Wolves and failed to win any of those games after trying "to defend a lead"...so tbh...it made feck all sense doing it today.
We have have only kept 4 clean sheets in the league this year.

Been saying the same ****ing thing every games for months

Yes, we haven’t got peak team we had 16-17-18 etc. seasons but seeing highlights of that team makes me ****ing angry seeing how we would destroy with attacking football.

Seeing Jan and Toby in their peak. Dele and Eriksen. Still got Kane and Son. Don’t have the Walker/Rose or Dembele but we could and should have done so much better with replacements.

But Maureen with his ****ty tactics is causing most of the decline with his bs. Dele hasn’t turned to ****, he has a vandetta against him. If he was going, he was going to be a bigger club in PSG. Could have come and made the guy tick, ie. ‘coached’ him as a coach is supposed too.

Sanchez hasn’t just turned to ****, Maureen is the one to blame. I mean the guy is being linked to Barca. Could be coached, at least to the standard he was.

N’Dombele vandetta before, the guy could be superstar with a decent manager. Not one that calls a player out to the point he didn’t give a **** and wanted out due to having a manager using a style from 20 years ago. A manager who openly admits he doesn’t understand the younger generations. Get the **** out then. As that is exactly who you are managing.

Treats Bale and Vini like ****s when they could be very good if given a run. Mismanagement.

    Everything is rotten about Maureen.

Like why drop Toby. He is our best CB. Play him every game, not keep dropping and destroying confidence. Basic bullshit.

Playing Dier. How many times do we have to say it. He is not a ****ing CB. ****. How many times.

Lo Celso is a little prick and has done **** all. Drop the ****er.

****ing Doherty. Which clown thought that would be a good signing. ****ing Hart. Because he speaks in a loud voice. Wtf. Which clown is signing these players.

Want Top 4, then buy top 4 players or potential. Don’t buy Holjberg. Ok, but not a top 4 player. ****.

Play to our ****ing strengths. Attack. Kane, Son, Alli, N’Domebele with support of Lucas/Lamela. Or buy something more exciting than a Bergwijn. So obvious. Or play him some rather than destroy his confidence too.

It’s not ****ing rocket science. I’m not a football manager but sitting here it didn’t take a ****ing genius to figure this **** out. That everyone of these ‘calling out’ of players was going to cause ****. That buying dross was going to give us dross. That playing players out of position wasn’t going to cut it at the top end of the EPL.

****s sake, how many times can we keep saying the same ****.

Aurier/Winks/Sissoko/Davies/Lamela/Lucas/. Average but could bolster a Top 4 squad. But need to go, for a refresh.

I mean playing the likes of Rodon/Tanganga, yes we like, up coming prospects but not ready for top 4 team. Should be subs. Not just chopping and changing. For a a manager who is all about defence, then stick with a consistent back line. How many times do you see the bear defences have a consistent back line. Again how the **** can Maureen not know this. Play ****ing, Aurier, Sanchez, Toby, Reguilon, every game until you can upgrade and/or coach the ****ers. Don’t play Dier. Don’t play Rodon (not ready).

We’ve spent, could have bought a top class CB, RB like we needed. A proper DM, a proper back up goalie. Than go into a team challenging now. Don’t buy Doherty. Don’t buy Hart. It’s not going to get top 4.

You don’t piss it away on Bale when you know he hasn’t played properly for two seasons and has lost the hunger. So obvious that gamble was going to be about 25% chance of it working out. I.e playing most games and to a top 4 level. Don’t waste your time there, just buy a proper CB or RB.

Mourinho doesn’t truly give a ****. He’s won it all, made the money. No incentive to change. Doesn’t give a ****.

And now we will lose Kane or Son.

All so ****ing obvious. One quality addition every transfer window where Poch had none would
have kept the top 4 gravy training going. But no, let’s get Maureen and **** it up. Something everyone else could see apart from the men marking millions and making these ****ing decisions.

Get any progressive manager would have done a better job. ****ing Arteta could have come in when Poch left and done a better job.

Even this squad with these signing was capable of top 4. Not now, the damage is done to confidence, morale or playing for this manager due to conflict.

    Dickhead.

    Haha.

Maybe Mourinho is doing amazing and is a genius with terrible players with terrible attitudes and we should be in the bottom half.

Just changing the subject for a minute - Ole has apparently had a right go at Sonny for going down 'easily'! Now I actually agree that he did - however until he is prepared to call out Bruno who went down half a dozen times today and berated the ref every time that he didn't get the decision even though I am not sure he was actually fouled at all, then he can **** off.
