What's whether there's a manager out there better than Arteta got to do with it? Of course there are. Pep. Klopp. But we need someone who'd come to us. People like Emery. And Arteta. They came to us on the back or comments about how they simply must be able to do better than their predecessor and they haven't. We've not improved one bit moving from one manager to the next.
Precisely my sentiments, not even talking about managers currently employed. I still think we are a decent club and any manager wishing to take themselves to the next level, who is ambitious will find as an attractive proposition. Our fans are not even asking for much, we are not asking to win the league.. Just get our players playing as a unit, playing good football and the players playing at least at 70-80% of their capacity. In the Wenger glory years, we did not win the league because we had the sexiest players or the best players, we won because our players gave their all, made effective use of their talent!
I agree Rafa would be a good option to take over. I would've taken him over Arteta at the point he was appointed. However, what are peoples thought's on letting Arteta see this season out, and maybe pulling something out of the bag with the Europa League (similar to our FA Cup run last season)? I'm just concerned that changing manager at this point of the season may be more detrimental, even though it has been a terrible season and the manager probably does not deserve to keep his place.
I doubt you would find many fans baying for blood and demanding Arteta's sacking with a handful of games to go. Even if we were to be dumped out of the Europa Cup, I still feel he should see out the season, we are safe from relegation, we not really in contention for 4th place, top 6 is out our hands, what really would sacking him achieve now?
Yea no one is saying sack Arteta now; this season is almost over anyway. in the summer I would make a change. but we won’t, he will get one more season.
Agreed, and if we do not win the Europa league then come the end of the season Rafa would be a great option and I would welcome it. IF we do manage to defy the odds and win the competition then what do you think we should do in terms of manager?
If Arteta wins the Europa League, keep him of course, he’s earned it. I personally don’t think we will win it; I’m not even sure we will get a result in Prague this week.
Fair enough, if that happens then the board have to make a statement and strengthen heavily if we are in the Champions League.
Of course if Arteta wins the Europa we have to keep him. The aim is to win trophies and get back into the Champions League and this would achieve both.
Probably an unpopular opinon but even if Arteta flukes Europa I want him sacked. League form is terrible, man management is terrible I have zero faith in the man
I think that be harsh we had a terrible start (and I don't blame him playing our experienced players consistently start off season as no one could predict they would not play well for so long) lost lots of points to stupid red cards and unluckily with situations like the pen and red card against us.. Or form after Christmas has not been that terrible... Give him more time I think our leauge position is false but if he starts as badly next season as he did this, then I think we need to have this conversation I think trend is going right way
Although I probably wouldn't sack him, I'd still keep a watchful eye on him should this occur. Because the reality is, we're going to finish 7th-9th this season, which is lower than most of us expected. And even if we win the Europa League, that shouldn't negate the appalling league form we've had for 18 months under Arteta now. That being said, potentially winning a Europa League and FA Cup in two successive years in your first ever managerial job would be quite impressive, whichever way you look at it. So I'd keep him, but if there'd be any threat of us finishing 7th or lower in the 2021-22 season, get rid.
I wouldn't risk possibly wasting a few months into next season to see if he can be consistent in the league. There are a number of managers out there who would be an improvement on him
I agree with this, but the board seems to be too proud to do this. it looks like no matter what the end of season form is, we are keeping Arteta.
I think so too! It does not matter how we finish, the damage was already done. If we get dumped out tonight (I hope not), the season is effectively over, just have to play for pride and finish respectable 7th/8th, which imho is a disaster. If he stays, (as we all expect him to) hopefully he would have learnt a lot from this season, whether he would do things any different based on his learnings is another matter. As to my mind he appears to select certain players based on reputation rather than performance. I also wonder whether, majority of fans have seen seen enough to understand what Arteta is about... What can we really hang our coats on in mitigation?
I've changed my mind on this, by the way. I want him gone regardless. There's no redeeming features of his management whatsoever and, frankly, he's extremely fortunate we have unambitious owners because he'd be gone by now if this was any other 'top 6' club.
Just to put into perspective how bad we've been, Arteta has broken records that lasted for decades and decades for ALL the wrong reasons. We've lost more games at home this season in all competitions than in any year since 1929-30. We're on course for our lowest goal tally in the league for over 35 years. We've scored the least goals from midfield out of EVERY team in the Premier League this season - we are ranked 20th. We have managed fewer shots on target outside the box this season than any other team - still ranked 20th. Leicester hadn't won at Arsenal away since 1973 before this season. Wolves hadn't won at Arsenal away since 1979 before this season. Burnley hadn't won at Arsenal away since 1974 before this season. Everton hadn't won at Arsenal away since 1996 before this season. They hadn't done the double over us since 1986. We lost 4 consecutive home league games for the first time since 1959. We are on course for our lowest league finish and points tally since 1995. We are on course for most losses in the league since 1995. There's no way in hell we should be THIS bad.
I just don’t understand why he gets a pass with so many in the media, so many other managers, and so many of our fans. his record is ****. it actually reminds me a bit of when Liverpool had dalglish for a season (won a trophy) then sacked him for finishing 8th. And that was sir kenny - a legend. Arteta is most certainly no legend.
