Poor John Hartson has only £250 a week to live on as he is paying off £30,000 gambling debts. Welcome to the real world John. Most pensioners don't have that much.

Maybe it has something to do with depression, after his battle with cancer.

If it was the depression side of things, I see gambling addiction the same as alcohol and drugs - you have to say yes the first time to get a taste of something so if you say no the first time you don't get addicted.

I gamble and drink but I know how much I can afford to lose and don't gamble any more than this and, therefore, don't end up with silly gambling debts!

My mate sold his business for a fair sum and went to the Casino and blew the lot - ended up nearly divorced for it as it was almost a quarter of a million quid - I had no sympathy for him as he could have gone out with a couple of thousand out of it and not taken his bank card - but he went and lost nearly 250k in 2 nights gambling. Had he controlled himself then he'd have the money - same with Hartson
