Poor John Hartson has only £250 a week to live on as he is paying off £30,000 gambling debts. Welcome to the real world John. Most pensioners don't have that much.
If it was the depression side of things, I see gambling addiction the same as alcohol and drugs - you have to say yes the first time to get a taste of something so if you say no the first time you don't get addicted. I gamble and drink but I know how much I can afford to lose and don't gamble any more than this and, therefore, don't end up with silly gambling debts! My mate sold his business for a fair sum and went to the Casino and blew the lot - ended up nearly divorced for it as it was almost a quarter of a million quid - I had no sympathy for him as he could have gone out with a couple of thousand out of it and not taken his bank card - but he went and lost nearly 250k in 2 nights gambling. Had he controlled himself then he'd have the money - same with Hartson
