Shows great vision, considering they started work on the training ground a year before they sold him.
The Allams we’re getting more per month than AP was getting in a year, completely different level of income.
But other clubs invested far far more and had better players coming through their academy’s. we had none.
The Allams’ investment in the academy is a big success story for their tenure. Though even then they managed to make enemies with the rushed and hamfisted way they cleared community groups out of the Arena. That doesn’t necessarily mean that Pearson or Bartlett were negligent though. Their tenure took a different approach, nurturing young players from PL academies - mostly Manchester United - rather than developing players in house. And that approach worked a treat for a while and got us back in the PL the second time. A word of caution about City’s academy. The lads coming through now are impressive but they have generally signed for the club at 8, 12 or 14 when City were a PL club or challenging for promotion. For example I think KLP joined the academy in 2009. Fast forward to now, if a 14 year old lad from Goole has offers from Hull City and Leeds United, which way will he go? I fear the quality in our supply line might dry up unless we get back amongst the top dogs in Yorkshire. Another example of why a club like ours needs a coherent and considered strategy throughout the club, not a rich kid with too many fast cars making random penny pinching decisions with no regard to any grander plan. I hope the owners have learned that hard lesson now.
The Diamond package was a cracking seat some way above the dugouts,a top notch 3 course meal(rib eye steak etc),unlimited drink from 12-6pm(Beer,wine,spirits,even champagne!!!)a programme,a fancy buffet at full time and the biggest ****ing hangover I've ever had in my life
It was a different experience in E2. Pretty much the same faces from the stadium opening right through to us getting evicted to the North Stand. Most were long standing City fans and little space for newbies when we went upto Premier. Consequently most were No to Tigers voters, and was very convenient for Allams when many stopped going after the eviction.
Howden do you know why the club are treating this interest differently? Has Ehab decided he wants to sell now or have this mob proved they’ve got the funds, do they know about the price of the smc
All I’ll say is, promoted the year after us, and training ground opened in early 2017 after only 3 seasons (I think) in the Premier League at that time.
The champagne would have come in handy. I hope they had enough of it for you. There was none in the M6 service station going home.
Unless you are being pedantic for the annoying sake of it about the old Div 1 prior to the PL, which is hardly a fair comparison against City, then given they are a broadly similar club in recent times I think it's a very fair comparison, and having bothered now to check dates I am correct in that when they opened the new training facility they were only in their 3rd season of modern era top division football. The fact that they have had 4 more seasons in the top flight since is irrelevant for this comparison.
I'm not sure why it's being treated so differently so it would be unfair for me to comment and speculate, re the price... I was surprised ( good way ) at the number but I've seen no hard evidence so I'm not going to start banding numbers around. There just seems a willingness all round
