Says the boy from Oldham. I've been and thought it a dump, whilst those I have spoken to from Oldham have said it's worse than that.
Whats the latest score on the Wind turbines lot coming to the Humber area? Or have the council and/or the government managed to balls it up ? Watching the ITV news tonight it said that Hull is the worst place in the UK to find a job...My job is looking well iffy at the mo. Something will have to give...Following City away for one!
No, no, it's not a ****hole, it's just that the government have done their boundaries all wrong silly.
It isn't easy down south either, though I appreciate that it pales into comparison compared to the difficulties those living in Hull are likely to be having. There are lots of jobs here but all employers seem to be looking for very specific skill sets and are not willing to negotiate or train members of staff - employers are equally as frustrated as employees, as companies seem to want to expand around here but they cannot find the right people. I know I will eventually find a good job, but in the mean time I am concentrating on learning web design (HTML/CSS) as that is something that not many people can do and you often don't have to re-locate for, especially for short-term contracts, and also putting time into the more creative side of me...DJing and art. I will either find a job or I will make money from one of my more creative ideas, at some point. Or open my own business, perhaps. I would wish luck to all, but it is more than luck, it is about positive thinking and trying new ideas in my opinion.
Here in NI I am finding that employers are not willing to compromise on their expectations as well but you need to remember that the number of people applying for jobs is much higher than just a few years ago. I find it hard to believe that they would find it difficult to get the right people. That's a smart idea to study something now and improve your skills. I'm studying to get CCNA certified because I do not want to be stuck in my current dead end job forever. Now is the time to do that and it will look good when potential employers ask what have you been doing while unemployed. You can then say 'Well I have been studying in order to improve my skills and knowledge'.
Fully agree, the fact that I was studying for a degree in Business Studies & Economics part-time with the OU was a massive part in getting both of my previous jobs.
I do offer my advice to the Conservatives from time to time when I feel they are making a mistake, but I think they want me to give them money, not the other way around...they did ask me if I had thought of being a local councillor...but nightclubs and politics tend not to mix!
That's weird, you would think they would pay their advisors not the other way around. Yeah if you like a good night out it's best to stay out of politics unless you want to be hounded by the tabloids of course.
I too have been finding it difficult to change my job as i want to begin my career but in the mean time i work at a local convienence store and also working towards becoming certified in the field of work i am looking to enter. It really is the best time to get yourself some extra training or volunteer work within an area you wish to work.
THANK YOU i think i should thank you very much for you can waste lot of time to write this post .....thank you again for your sharing.. _________________________________________________________________ I live my life in colour and see in soundMake sure you are heard! buy wow goldBuy Runescape GoldAion KinahBuy Cheap Final Fantasy XI Gil
I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. Decided I wanted to change career because I was working weekends and my family situation changed and things weren't fitting in right. Even though I was prepared to take a massive pay cut percentage wise (from £18k down to £10k) and start at the bottom I had real difficulty finding anywhere that ran Mon-Fri that would even give me an interview, purely because of the level of applicants and all my experiance being retail based putting me behind them. After a couple of months I decided I'd have to study something before I got anywhere so I started preparing myself financially to pack in work and study full time (because I was working rotas I wasn't going to be able to commit to part-time/evening classes). It's amazing how much spending you do out of habit rather than necessity. Even as someone who's got a reputation for being tight with my spending I was somehow managing to spend my £18k a year and not get much more to show for it than I'm doing now on about £7k (student loans and things). After paying the mortgage I'm living on about £2.5k a year so I'm probably spending about £5k a year less than I was. Granted I've ditched Sky and the TV Licence in the last couple of months (saving about £480 a year), but the only thing I've really noticed I'm not getting now is a weekend around one of our away games. I still eat well, I still get to most of our home games (can't do midweek because of classes), I still get to go out when I want to. First year I took as an opportunity to do nothing outside of classes but I'm starting to look for part-time work for now as well as possibilities for when my course finishes. I have to look for both now because I've got 4 options next year, uni (I'd go into 3rd year with what I've done), professional qualifications full time, having a job and doing the professional qualifications as a trainee, or selling my body for money because JSA wouldn't be enough to pay the mortgage. I say 4 options, there's only 3 really because I can't find any trainee positions. The part-time positions though employers seem to be expecting much more and seem to be much less flexible. I guess it's because they can with everyone being desperate for work but even supermarkets seem to be setting hours for each position rather than placing an advert for 5 positions and discussing the shifts they need at interview (which is how I got my first job). I could theoretically have worked 90% of the shifts they needed, but in each position they had at least one shift that clashed with my classes or with me coming down to Hull* so I couldn't apply. *I know that doesn't make it impossible as I could if I needed the money accept the job and not come down but it's just to demonstrate their inflexibility. That could just as easily rule out a parent who gets the kids at the weekend.
You're spending £50/wk on cigs? You smoking like a chimney or are they not very cheap when you're abroad on your business trips?
