The EFL rules make no mention of that

The entire rule about emergency keeper loans doesn't quote anything about having to have played 5 games and doesn't say anything about u23 assessments. All it mentions is "professional goalkeepers". I would take that, to the letter, to mean that if your goalkeepers have professional contracts, they count as professionals

    57 Emergency Goalkeeper Loan

57.1 If all the Professional Goalkeepers at a Club are unavailable as a result of having been:

    57.1.1 certified by an independent medical practitioner as being unfit to play;

    57.1.2 suspended; or

57.1.3 called up to play for his national association representative matches in accordance with the requirements of FIFA as laid down from time to time,

a Club may register (either before or after the deadlines laid down in Regulations 43.2 and 43.3), a further goalkeeper on a short term basis in accordance with the following provisions.

57.2 The Club must supply to The League written evidence to demonstrate the circumstances set out in Regulation 57.1 apply, together with the appropriate form(s) for his registration and The League having confirmed that the circumstances conform to the provisions of this Regulation:

57.2.1 in respect of any fixture played on a weekday when the Office is normally open, at least three hours before the match; or

57.2.2 in respect of any other fixture:

    (a) 12 noon on the day of the match; or

    (b) at least three hours before the match,

    whichever is the earlier.

    Guidance

Medical evidence cannot be accepted from anyone connected to the Club, nor is it acceptable to obtain a report from another Club’s club doctor.

Goalkeepers that have been deemed unavailable cannot be named on a team sheet during the loan period.

Goalkeepers on an Emergency Goalkeeper loan may be recalled by their Parent Club during the period of the loan in exceptional circumstances and subject to the approval of the League (i.e. as per the similar rights in the context of Standard Loans of goalkeepers).

Clubs should be aware that the Premier League does not permit Premier League Clubs to send goalkeepers on seven day emergency loans into the EFL.

57.3 The period of any Emergency Goalkeeper Loan:

57.3.1 shall be for a period of seven days, inclusive of the starting date and finishing date; and

57.3.2 may be renewed for seven days at a time, subject to compliance with Regulation 57.2 in respect of each proposed renewal.

57.4 Any goalkeeper registered under the provisions of this Regulation must be included in the starting 11 on the Team Sheet, and must start the Match

57.5 The provisions of Regulation 54.4.2 shall not apply to an Emergency Goalkeeper Loan

Never knew them was the rules regarding appearances, thanks for posting. Seems a bit of a cop out to me like, thought that was the whole point of having a squad so you had some cover for injuries.

Edit. Or not the rules then. I retract my thanks for posting duff info.

Yeh looks like they changed the rules recently. This article reiterates my comment about 5 first team appearances as the "previous" rule...

Well colour me surprised they're bringing someone in, with likes of Macanthony Fry and Ferguson involved. Bent as **** the lot of them.

The rules clearly state they cannot. If they are allowed to it opens up a huge can of worms

I won't lose sleep over it to be honest. We aren't not going up because Peterborough sign an inexperienced or back up keeper from elsewhere

I agree but if there are no rules the whole competition is just a farce.

If Ferguson feels he needs 'someone in the squad with more experience' he should've signed someone with more experience.

We had to play Younger because of injuries ffs.

And Younger, looked excellent to me , my worst fear is that this goalkeeper is as good as Patterson, or even worse still even better. Often teams improve out of adversity rather than design, who would swap Sanderson and O/9 now for Willis and Bailey Wright or worse still Flanagan, some would as its all about opinions and mine are often wrong, but I like to post them, as we all should. <ok>

27th February, 10 points ahead, equal games and better GD ....

    1 Peterborough 30 25 61

    2 Lincoln City 30 18 57
    3 Hull 32 24 56
    4 Portsmouth 30 19 52
    5 Sunderland 30 20 51

5th April, 2 points ahead, played one more game and inferior GD ...

    1 Hull 40 36 76
    2 Peterborough 39 29 73
    3 Sunderland 38 30 71

They've really blown this haven't they, can any P'Bro/WUM/Wolfy poster argue with that?

Aye - and Lincoln were 6 ahead of us and are now 9 behind. mental turn around in 5-6 weeks.

It's why we have to keep winning. For example - in this 5-6 week period Pompey have gone through a horrendous spell and now a really good spell. If we look after ourselves, the other teams will drop enough points.
