what’s very interesting about the race is the opposite of this. Only 5 runnings since 1997 would have been profitable backing the field, given how competitive the race is you would probably expect more outsiders than that to win.
With bookmakers offering such varying odds, would it be possible to plan the staking to guarantee a small profit?
I doubt it, books will be quite overround with the additional places on offer and lack of on course bookmakers
Surely backing 6 in it is a bit much..especially if playing with real money? 2 or 3 selections gives you options and could provide a nice profit.
In the old days Pops, it was quite easy to narrow it down to a couple of horses and feel pretty confident of getting the winner or at least a place. These days it is more of a lottery with half the field in with a chance. I won't be backing anything as I can't get a bet on. If I was betting, it would be purely for fun and I would have a fiver on Cloth Cap to win and quid ew on the other 5
On further reflection I'll just stick to my three. Didn't realise SR was a 7yo (too young). Both Discorama and Any Second Now may prefer more give in the ground. So final choice is: Cloth Cap Magic of Light Blaklion
McManus has 7 in it! Is that a record. Gigginstown 6. Wouldnt it be a fairer race if owners were restricted to say three runners. I guess that then there would be all sorts of shenanigans like horses in the wifes name etc. Just seems wrong to me.
In my opinion there should be a limit on the number of entries one owner can have in these big races. I would set it at 5 maximum - why should these powerful owners cover a 1/3rd of the field? But alas in today's society there is no chance of this happening - they would be cowering to discrimination and human rights laws. Similar should happen in football in my view too. There should be a minimum of 4 or 5 home grown players in each premiership side rather than teams being allowed to flood their sides with foreign players. But again this would never be entertained.. its not very PC but of course might actually help the English national side win a major tournament..
Don’t care how many an owner has, want to see the 40 best horses on ratings running and that’s it for me.
Ron - you can get 33/1 each way 10 places with Bet365 on the each way extra function. They go 60/1 6 places or 66/1 5 places. Bet365 go 1/4 odds and not 1/5th like most of the bookies. You only get best odds guaranteed on the 5 places..
What's even better is if you are an existing Bet365 customer they refund you half of your each way bet back straight away. So if you put £10 each way on Blaklion now you'll get £10 back so your bet only costs you £10 not £20. It almost sounds too good to be true...
