One thing Jaye about European football is how soft the fouls get given. Especially as English teams for all their soft going down in the prem and diving etc, still no where near as bad as most other European teams, especially Spanish and Italian.

Player just runs into the back of TAA and somehow goes down screaming and holding his face <doh>

Another ‘foul’ from mane somehow despite nothing happening... then player barges into back of mane and no foul <laugh>

Apparently touching the defender is a foul but not other way round. So frustrating.

Well 2-0 home will see us through...but hard to be positive after that performance. The players might as well have walked on the pitch, took a giant turd and then walked off again.

Grim first half, better in the second - but a mountain to climb now.

we just looked off the pace again and defence was poor particularly our right side .Thought if anything we should be grateful it was only 3-1

The defence was awful. Our play was one dimensional. At least we got the goal. If we had our usual crowd we would have been more confident. Let’s hope we turnover Villa at the weekend and give us some momentum.

This game is on Klopp. If you cant get the players up for Madrid nothing will. Tactically he got it awfully wrong. The distance between CBs and forward line was massive and it made the press useless as madrid would make the pitch wide with their wingbacks and outnumber us in the middle.

Trust the system was thrown out of the window and we got exposed. Trent is making Southgate smug right now. Glad we got an away goal but I doubt we will turn it around.

Most annoying part of the game was watching Wijmaldum sideways pass software patch working during the last 10 mins.

Shame we didn’t play anywhere near that level in the first half and we’d have done a lot better.
At HT seemed like we’d be out of tie completely so that away goal we’re still in it just.

disappointed that we didn’t get after them in that midfield. Was set up for us to harass them with that 3 but we just let them pass it around. In second half when we actually ran around a bit we got at them scored and looked more threatening.

    Diabolical display.

Trent just showed every bad habit and bad attitude possible. He gave up by 60mins. Southgate will be as he has just been proven right.

Mane was absolutely terrible. Only interesting in flipping. Very little effort to press.

Wijnaldum crabbed all night on the ball but was no where off it.

The inability to stand on cross modric was really key. Nobody wanted to do the work. There was precious little energy first half and we got a spawny goal and then got dominated again.

Trent was a 0/10 for me.
Robertson played it back 95% of time.
Mane killed every forward move that wijnaldum didn't.
Fabinho seeming would not sit in with the two cbs and we were bloody lucky not to lose by 6.
Jota was awful in passing but tried a bit
Salah as always got a break and when he did he finished. He was also not too pushed do the hard work.

Keita though was a massive tactical error. Zero energy. No closing down at all. Made on interception but gave it away constantly. Never covered trent going forward once.

There was no energy there, very little to inspire and frankly that's going to be it as there will be no anfield inspiration

Don’t get the hate on TAA. Yeah ****ed up his header and got beaten once in first half 1v1. Other than that didn’t do much wrong.

The whole midfiekd were awful first half and kept putting our defence under pressure by giving the ball away and the front 3 couldn’t control the ball.

Hoping the first half was just one of those, and the second half was much more like what we will see for rest of season.

Nothing wrong with highlighting the number of times he and Gini kept losing the ball. Snowball effect. Plus that was a schoolboy error in a high value game. He was great at the weekend but poor today.

TAA played a blinder on Saturday but today he confirmed what Carra said regarding his defensive weaknesses. He is brilliant going forwards and pinging these long cross field passes. But he is not a great defender and in a 1 on 1 situation he isn’t the best. Today he cost us at least one of the goals conceded.

I'm unsure of my feelings, am I massively pissed off with the first 45 or am I happy with the last 45.

If we'd started like we'd finished we would have walked away winners, why it took us 45 minutes of abject ****e before we kicked into gear is beyond me.

I won't moan about the back line, it is what it is, but the midfield where very poor then they suddenly weren't, if you need a bollocking by the manager to progress in the champions league, you shouldn't be playing in it.

Actually I've decided I'm just disappointed

No hate, but he was poor. A bad pass early on and seemed to lose confidence from then on. We've seen it before from him.

On a separate note, Macca's commentary does my head in.

I would have taken Gini off at half time and put Jones on at least he knows which end our goal is. First half nobody was looking to go forward. No spark, no drive. Still, as they say, it's only half time.

Don’t feel he was any worse than anyone else. Seems to just highlight any tiny mistake he makes. Not saying he was great by any means, but he made a couple mistakes. Phillips was at fault for the first, kabak nearly gifted them a 3rd with **** back pass. Robbo gave up chasing the striker for the 2nd from TAA header. As a defender should always anticipate the worse case scenario and Robbo just switched off giving asensio all the time in the world.
