... if this is true. Ten Championship clubs were placed under transfer embargo at the same time ... ... with concerns growing that some second-tier outfits are facing ‘financial Armageddon’. The clubs in question were Birmingham, Blackburn, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Huddersfield, Luton, Reading, Sheff Wed and Stoke. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...-TEN-clubs-placed-transfer-embargo-month.html
Daily Mail sensationalism. HM Govt gave companies 3 month extension to file their results but the EFL haven't amended league regs to allow for this. So, for 3 months from Feb companies having to use the 3 month extension (say because furlough payment paperwork is late arriving or there is a covid-related delay in getting auditors to audit and sign off the books) are automatically in breach of EFL rules and are being given a purely administrative transfer embargo covering the 3 month extension. They can't trade players in Mar, Apr and May - but FIFA show the transfer window is closed until June 9th anyway.
I'd expect our summer transfer business to be fully mapped out by now. With where we need to strengthen for another League One campaign at one end right up to having a go at the Championship at the other.
Exactly bizarre that the EFL have not acknowledged this extension which a fair few companies have taken advantage of. It has been logistically difficult at times to get the information and therefore the government gave this extension to help not hinder
Imagine the Daily Hitler using clickbait sensation grabbing headlines that actually have no foundation in reality. I'm stunned.
Story may be a load of nonsense but lots of championship clubs will be struggling. My guess is it will be the league worst hit by loss of revenue. It will be a buyers market this summer for sure. Play clubs off against each other and bargains will be had. Having said that, I expect we wont be in the business of buying players because they have a discount sticker, all about the data now for us.
It's comforting to know we are no longer buying players through 'nepotism', name or price. Whatever the truth, about this article, it's no doubt true that there are clubs in ever deeper trouble than they already were, pre-Covid. As harsh as it sounds we'll be looking to take maximum advantage. We must be looking an attractive club for ambitious forward thinking players ... ... proper coaching, support, analysis, training facilities etc. Those who only want the dosh need not apply.
And hopefully we have seen the last admittance to the SAFC Pre-Retirement Home For Clapped-Out Players
