I might be wrong but I don't think he's saying that. He can be ok in patches, but for most of the time he's gash. We should surely expect at least 'ok' for most of the time, then quiet spells and the odd mistake (like we see from say KLP) are fine / understandable. For me this near nails it "Even when he gets hold of the ball, he is too slow in thinking and moving so that by the time he moves it on all the space has gone ... ". Add to that the valid comments about the ball not sticking enough, how it so often bounces off him, how he ends up out wide too often, how he often ends up running toward our goal to find a man (often a defender) to pass to, etc. Compare & contract with Magennis; one of his first involvements, a ball played up to him, one touch to control it, a sharp turn and a really neat lay off out wide; Eaves just can't / doesn't do that. , I suspect most if not all of us on here were willing him on to grab his chance (once again). He's had time now to get back up to speed. Sorry, but he was really poor. Fantastic if he proves us wrong in the coming games, but I just don't see it happening.
[QUOTE="AlRawdah, post: 14771575, member: 1027312"Tom Eaves isn’t a top class striker. He’s a half decent League 1 link man. He’s a big man but he’s not especially good in the air, he has a decent touch and can finish chances. He’s not our greatest player, he’s not our worst. But the line of people queuing up to slag him off the instant he has a poor touch - well that says more to me about the moaners than it does the player.[/QUOTE] he has a decent touch and can finish chances. Sorry but I must be watching a different player, the only bit you got right is he's not good in the air. The players don't pass to him due to his touch, so he moves out wide and gets in the way of others. When the full backs/ wingers have a chance at crossing they nearly always try and pull it back to the edge of the box for the midfielders. The play changes when Magennis plays due to him being able to hold the ball up and lay it off. Either way if we get promoted both need to go as neither are Championship quality.
You're right, that's what I was saying. Magennis is a good player at this level, certainly better than Eaves, but the main point in his favour is how much better Wilks and KLP are alongside him rather than alongside Eaves.
Well I agree that Magennis is generally a better player than Eaves. I’m certain Josh will start on Monday. I just don’t think that justifies the singled-out abuse Eaves gets. But there it is, different strokes etc.
I think the problem with both Magennis and Eaves is they are so inconsistent, hence for almost 2 seasons we've had whichever comes on as a sub often looking quite good for 30 minutes but then often looking ineffectual when they start the next game. Those praising Magennis touch seem to forget that he too often has a very wide turning circle and days when his second touch is a tackle. And I actually like the fact that Eaves is more mobile and at his best brings others into play more. But it was hard to put in a case for Eaves yesterday when far too often his first touch was shocking. Overall, it just seems to me Magennis is a much better competitor who has made the most of his abilities where Tom Eaves hasn't. And he's much more savvy - seems to draw fouls where Eaves gets pulled up all the time.
I think we'll grumble and soldier on with the 2 of them and get promoted. A bigger problem is that I don't think either of them is good enough for the Championship. Not sure what their contracts say but we might be stuck with them for a while.
Football fans love nothing better than heaping abuse on certain players, ours are no different to any others - first badly abused player I ever saw was Mally Lord (thank **** t'internet wasn't round in those days) and God knows how many since.
All this talk about whether A or B is good enough for the championship is a bit previous.... all I will say is neither A nor B were good enough last time...
With the 'Ammers now in 4th (CL spot), thanks to JB's cool finish, I'm wondering what the £7m add-ons will be for.... Appearances, England call up, Champs League spot?
Docherty looked very annoyed yesterday when taking on the entire Northampton team, ready to unleash what would have been goal of the season, only to be dispossessed by Tom Eaves.
Hopefully Adkins can sort Maddison out and find the player in there, and I think Adkins is the best manager Madison could hope for in his situation.
He might not have been anything close to a good player for us and he hasn't done himself favours at times, but good player or not... Mental health isn't a joke or something to take the piss out of
He was subbed at half time on Saturday.... the biggest step a man could ever make is to look at himself ... good luck to him...
My reference was towards the various posts a few weeks ago, hadn't seen the thread and post earlier today ref MM. No malicious comment intended
