Mehmas has had 6 winners from 8 runners at Southwell with 5 different horses winning for the sire. He is the sire of Brocklesby 3rd Makalu who surely should be odds on in the 1:36 today.

14:10 Market Rasen - Universal Folly

(Certainly has the form to do well in this event. Distance and ground should be ideal. Brian Hughes rides for trainer N.G.Richards. Best price at time of writing 7/2.)

Yeah, i was thinking along similar lines just glancing through that card Nass but I see now that the Boughey newcomer is being well supported. He has had a fairly good record with these types doesn't he. It will be interesting to see, I think I'd still stick with the Ryan horse and experience.

Yes he’s started very well with the 2 year olds, that one didn’t tick as many boxes for the surface though, but has been very well backed.

Really interesting to see how Woods' first horse is going to run too... Great to see a trainer actually come back instead of leave...

Won nicely, sire who is good on the fibresand and didn’t look as errant as the one I put up. Guess that one will have headgear or a cut before soon. Ungenuine by the look of that!

In fairness I had backed Makalu as well... I'd say Woods' 2yo's are going to be very well trained judging by that one, he was very good with them over there...

Wow Echoes In Rain very impressive there - backed as if defeat were out of the question and quickened clear in the manner of a very talented mare.

Define ungenuine?
I'd say that the standard definition was generally understood, STH, and it's pretty much exactly covered by the Timeform squiggle (single or double). The original squiggle, as devised and defined by Phil Bull, was generally dressed in uncomplimentary language ('a rogue, an arrant jade' etc), to which trainers and owners didn't take kindly. Eventually - can't recall exactly when, but I'd guess early 1980s - the Timeform organisation revised it to make it much more objective and non-defamatory; the version I remember was "unreliable for temperamental or other reasons" which I'm fairly sure was Jim McGrath's work.

In Makalu's case, my initial theory is that he didn't enjoy his day at Doncaster and may take a long time to get over it, irrespective of surface.

Rachael Blackmore now 1 win from 22 rides since Cheltenham - funny old game

This was the first comment I read after backing Epson Du Houx. The writing was on the wall then, you could say.

Funny old game for sure, maybe team Henry and co just getting the "A" team in order for Aintree and Punchestown before a good Summer in the fields.
