Isn't it the Kent variant that's causing the problems in Europe?

Not sure how they can call it the Kent variant when we were inundated with sarf luunderners coming darn the M2 and then the dingy travellers landing on our beaches, luckily my immediate family haven’t had it but both sides of my London family have - who knows where it comes from ......... other than it started in China

There are thousands of variants, most of them die out. The virus has been running rings round us in Europe, I don't think there's a single European country that can boast of a success story. Part of the reason for our high death toll is that we're so fat and unhealthy, whereas Sweden, despite their laissez-faire policy had a lower death toll per capita last time I looked. Now there's a new double-variant in India, whatever that is. All I hope is that we'll be ready for the next one. As long as countries like China retain their eating habits there will be another one.

Members of Parliament vote by huge majority to keep emergency powers for another 6 months.

    There's a surprise.
"Jam tomorrow" they used to say.
    Now it's "Freedom tomorrow".
Except for the freedom to demonstrate. That's never coming back.

BBC's Panorama is exposing sloppy work and contamination in the Milton Keynes COVID19 testing lab.

Utterly depressing, but I can't say I'm surprised.
Peel away the veneer of the UK's fight against Coronavirus - and what do we find?
Political pressure leading to terrible practice.
Lies upon lies from the spin doctors (rather than the real doctors).

    Jesus wept <wah>

This is what's going to happen over Easter weekend up and down the country...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-56575135

If I were you I wouldn't even think about visiting anywhere considered a 'popular' place, like a nice park.
By evening it will be a rubbish-strewn wasteland.
There must be thousands of morons out there who actually enjoy throwing litter around and spoiling the place for everyone else.
Plenty of COVID19 to go around as well, for anyone under 50 who hasn't been vaccinated yet.

Just driven along Tankerton seafront and it’s like a bank holiday Lardy - people driving round looking for parking spaces , 20 people queuing up at the fish and chip shop ..... third lockdown here we come!

I didn't have much sympathy to start with regarding these people, and I have none left now.

It's a blessing that our exhausted and traumatised NHS workers won't have to see so many older people coming into ICU beds and ending up on ventilators. But those beds could still fill up again with 30-somethings and 40-somethings who just ignored the rules the first chance they got.

I'm sorely tempted to say there should never be another lockdown, even if cases and hospital admissions rise sharply among folk under 50.
So far they account for only 1% of the total death toll in the UK if I'm not mistaken.
    That's about 1,260 people.
Granted, still very sad and dreadful for the individual families concerned.
But three times that many people are killed in road accidents every year.
And that's awful too for their loved ones - but we don't ban all cars and lorries because of it.

Granny and grandad have had their shots now. All the pubs and restaurants and other places can't stay closed forever just because of some younger people who just don't give a toss.
If I was a nurse, having to watch people die every day, scenes like that Nottingham park would make me despair.

A rather unusual Glenfiddich Experiment. Seasoned in IPA barrels. Excellent.
