The whole he is crap one minute then a hero the next has gone of for as long as I can remember. The difference now is we all have this internet to change our minds even more.

I remember having loads of arguments with lads on the bus about Armstrong. Me and a few others were massive fans of what he did on the pitch, others thought he was worse than useless. Funnily on the way back from the quarter final everyone thought he was a hero.

The other thing that happens a lot is footballers become much better players when they are out. People clamour for them to walk back in the team but sometimes forget it might take a couple of games to ger upto speed. Hume and Wright are examples, both will need time to be at their best.

On the subject of Jones I do think he is quality and brings lots to our attacking play. I dont think Gooch has been rubbish though either. I have never seen him give anything less than 100% and he brings plenty to the side. Both will be needed in this next 10 games.

I doubt that LJ bases team selection merely upon the result and performance in the last match.

He has constantly looked to the forthcoming opponents and tweaked the way we go about them; players, subs and tactics.

He hasn't always had success from the off, but then LJ has made some canny substitutions and we've looked a different side.

Long may it continue though. If LJ manages us as a fluid unit then out opponents have a reduced chance to guess how we will play and that can only be a good thing.

However, with some fans, a run of poor results could see LJ being labelled as a Tinkerman

That's what's impressed me the most about him, he's not afraid to change things early if they're not going the way he thought rather than wait until the opposition have scored to change things

    100% this ^
Wyke was still getting pelters after becoming the leagues top scorer, saying he can’t hold the ball up and bring other players into the game. The lad is a goalscorer end of.

Same with Burge, 12 clean sheets in 19 games a few months back but he’s ****e because he’s too quiet and he only makes routine saves.

People who post ****e like that are clearly on a wind up as you can’t argue with the facts of goals scored, clean sheets, save percentage and penalties saved. Or as you say they don’t watch the games and are on the coat tails of a couple of morons. Emperors new clothes and all that.

I can remember when Monty was being pilloried for being weak against long shots. Eyesight problems they said. He didn't do too badly a couple of seasons later!

I used to work for a CEO who was the same. Dependent on what you produced on a weekly basis you were either a Wizard or a W****r, and it became a rather sad competition about who could get the most moves from Wizard to WAnchor in a week
Everyone will have poor displays and low points but we need to support and encourage

We need to create an atmosphere where newcomers are given time to find the photocopier, and stock cupboard, without being made to feel like a freak.

    You're spot on mate.

Bit harsh to label people who doubted Burge as WUM's or moronic sheep mate. Yes his stats were ok but they don't always tell the full story.

This forum seems to be getting more judgemental by the day.

Never been any different all the time I've been on here imo ...

... people have various opinions, just as in real life.

If someone starts a thread specifically slating Burge, surely they have to accept people have a different point of view.

If they can't cope with that perhaps this isn't the Mumsnet they were hoping for.

    https://www.not606.com/threads/lee-burge.390136/

"Absolutely shocking keeper. He never looks comfortable with crosses, he makes hard work of the easiest saves and his kicking is pathetic. If we had big Jon in goal yesterday we would have won. He will be the difference between us staying down and going up this year imo. We desperately need someone in before the window closes, hopefully LJ realises this."

Agree with this. I'll always like Gooch. I like it that he's come over here and become an adopted Mackem. I like that he probably could have left, certainly when we went down from the championship, but instead stuck around. More than any other player I hope he gets to see the good side of safc and benefits personally and professionally from us coming back.

That said, he's a strange one. There are touches of real, genuine class. At times he looks like he could comfortably be a top player in the league above. But those flashes are all too rare. What I don't get is that you expect that kind of inconsistency from a player who isn't giving their all, who isn't looking after themself, who isn't properly motivated. None of that seems to apply to Gooch. He genuinely looks like he cares about the club, he seems a cracking lad, he always seems to be putting the graft in. He should really be a stand out player in this division but sadly he still often doesn't influence a game.

Still, one of his moments of quality won us a cup, another one might yet take us up . I just hope Johnson works with him and he finds some consistency because, like I say, I'd love to see him be a key player in the championship

This is why good scouts spend hours and hours studying players mate.

You could watch Gooch in half a dozen games and sign him for Burnley ...

... but see the next six games and not want him at Barrow,

Haway Gucci son, get it sorted ffs, you have it in you.

I like what I have seen so far of Jones, exciting as he has that rapid speed. Puts a good ball in too. Think he will be able to step upto championship standard too.
