ALCOCK AND BROWN 16/1 Southwell 4:20 I have a huge fancy for this horse tomorrow in a race that really does take Class 5 handicap hurdles to a new low. This horse really is a summer ground beast and has been running in conditions that have only served to get its mark down. If you look back two years it was operating a much higher level than this. I think its been plotted up so I will be worried if there isnt significant market support. Distance and ground should suit perfectly well and Southwell is not too dissimilar to Worcester where this one has done his winning in previous summers.
10/1 now with Skybet, however they are going 5 places as long as 12 or more runners. I hope 3 or more don't come out so will go ew.
Anyone else noticed the bumper tomorrow where a full brother to Very Wood goes up against a half-brother to Epatante? Both debutantes. Which leads to the next question, who on Earth buys a store for 120K and sends it to Mark Rimell????
Ludlow 1:30; Interesting that Caid Du Lin reverts back to hurdling... Hasn't been altogether too great since he last won a race over a year ago but hasn't been running terribly really... Goes back to hurdling off 5lbs lower mark and was a good quality hurdler before moving to chasing... Hasn't ran over hurdles in years but while Dobryn and The Bees Knees both could progress more, at 7/4 each I can't see too much value in them and will hope Caid Du Lin is back to somewhere half near his best to win this. Not looking likely judging by the odds but hey, might as well take the chance... Southwell 1:45; Can't see anything but First Class Return winning this but I will keep an eye on His Dream. Was running well last Autumn to nearly a rating of 100 on each run before the ground started to get wintery soft. He'll probably get dropped another few pounds for this and I'd look for him next time out, I might chance him w/o the fav... Southwell 2:20; All 3 debutantes here are interesting, but with the prices I might back the flat-bred Lucy Wadham horse for a minimum amount. She's having a good year, and the 10lb claimer on board has won for her before. Hexham 5:50; The bumper before this one and this one are interesting too with lots of pedigrees I like the look at, but I'm a flat sucker, so again I'll go with the John Berry trained runner E/W As a further note of warning again... Do not listen to me, I'm on a terrible run, especially publicly
For what my opinion is worth Gill, I have backed the John Berry horse EW. However, I wouldnt touch Caid Du Lin with a bargepole. He has looked totally disinterested this season and reverting to hurdles is pretty much a last throw of the dice!
Well this is an interesting race and one I wouldn't touch with a barge pole Wynn House is fav and Barbados Blue is the one who has more scope. And if the 10lb claimer is one of these very good apprentices Sunrise Ruby could be vying for top rated. Interesting that the fav is 6lb bottom rated. The top rated likes the course Gun to head, Barbados Blue. If it was a chase it would definitely be BB
16:20 Southall - Shady Character (For a half-hour or so after lunch was, by sheer coincidence having a look at this very tricky handicap for conditionals. When checking in to the forum damn me if Stick has put-up one with a good chance in this, namely Alcock and Brown. and Project Mars goes in it for Nassau. Both can certainly win this, especially the latter who can put right his disappointing run at Wincanton LTO. Have gone for the Oliver Greenall trained gelding even though his overall form is uninspiring. However, he will be ridden by a very promising conditional, Ross Turner, who, I do believe, won a 'ride of the month' accolade not long ago? Please correct me if I've got this wrong! So, I hope Shady Character can make the podium at least!)
Horse definitely doesn't want to be racing at all... I couldn't resist a tiny bet at 20's though All that's left for him to try now is Hunter Chases and maybe Cross Country!
