Those that sabotage these protests, probably paid Antifa to kick it all off and divide the people.......should be banned from any further protests and tagged

back in the seventies after watching some terrible scenes on the news (WHEN YOU COULD TRUST the bbc} myself and a few like minded friends and decided to get involved .. rightly or wrongly in picketing the grunwick dispute where the premeditated violence shown by the police was sickening .. why would they remove their numbers from their tunics otherwise ,from their it was a logical progresion to rock against racism and the poll tax demonstrations, untill then it was a case of you dont skip a fight if the fight is right, it was then that things became overly radicalised and youthful idealism went out the window, time to leave.now i try to make a case for and understand the mobs in bristol but i cant its just anarchy for anarchys sake, would i get involved now, never, allways room for idealism but not mob rule.

The issue with this bill, is if they did not protest because of covid then the bill will go through.
I don’t agree with them breaking lockdown rules or the rioting. But this bill could be past before the public had their say. Without protest we will then have to accept whatever the government decide.
Like Bluebaldee says without protest the poll tax would still be here.
Forget JGF waffling about BLM as not everyone was aware of it.
As I said I don’t agree with breaking lockdown and riots, but would the government not decide to wait till Covid rules are lifted before passing the rule?
Tin hat on know for the comments

Its not a parallel. The poll tax was implemented. There was a national campaign for non-payment which had enormous support leading to up to 20% of people in areas of the Country refusing to pay, which would have resulted in Councils being unable to operate if it had continued and an impact on democracy as people in their hundreds of thousands left the electoral roll.

I think you should agree it more than some, more like a very good majority.

I didn't say everyone was aware of it and commented it was a mainly a USA thing before GF … WE CERTAINLY knew about it after GF incident and it all kicked off!! anyone that didn't must have have been blind deaf or off the grid …..

Parliament has a diary, it has a restricted amount of time, papers are put forward and allotted some of that time... and then a vote is taken, usually known well before the discussions. Remember Brexit?
Covid is, and has caused disruptions to many parliamentary things. This bill is in its infancy it is scheduled to receive more time, more votes and will take a while to pass through the system. The government or opposition parties or individuals are governed by the Speaker, he allots the timetable, not the government in its entirety. The lockdown rules lift next week AND the bill is still being discussed ……

Have to agree, the problem is BLM, XR and kill the bill have been hijacked by anarchist criminals, more intent on bringing down democratically elected governments and that dilutes the cause and turns people against it.

Disgusting, Bristol is being used because the police failed to act during and after the Edward Colston fiasco.

they have arrested the arsonist attempting to burn the van with police in it … initial charge is less than was first touted but apparently can be made more severe after further investigations! Police have to stand by their actions regarding the statue, even should they believe they were wrong! It was warming to see the latest protest go to PLAN.... very little aggression! Saturday may be different! the louts will be about, any one notice the video camera being used... don't know about 4k !! more like 8k+!!!

God yes, Marvin Rees, by far Bristol's worst mayor...............would be glad to see the back of him.....IMO has done nothing for this City other than to cause tension and divide amongst the community..

He loves to play the race card, but he's not alone - Lewis Hamilton is another who will drop it in given any chance and will tell people what a tough upbringing he had, and how difficult it was to get into motor sport because of his colour. His competitors from the early days tell a very very different story, but of course that doesn't get heard very often as it might reveal the truth and question his tainted memory.

As Morgan Freeman rightly said recently, if people just shut up about racism (in most respects) and stopped making it headline news every day, then people would settle down and get on with each other as best they can. But racism doesn't only work one way. But again, that's a story that is never told.
