It said on the news yesterday that these calls netted the fraudsters £160 billion last year, I honestly get 5 or 6 a day but just block them but it makes no difference I also get about 30 scam emails a day but I just delete them.

I’ve noticed they can trace a phone call in about 30 seconds if they want to but can’t manage one where about a billion phone calls a day comes from useless bastards,

What I don’t understand is if someone else is using my national insurance number fraudulently then why would I be in trouble? .

I no longer answer the phone for numbers not in my contacts, it’s got that bad.

A lot of robot calls, if you do not recognise the number and left it to go to record, immediately hang up.

Don't forget to get his card details, as you need to pass on charge for the call. Advising for a friend.

All this scamming seems to be getting more frequent.
Have you noticed there's hardly any Indian call center's now compared to a few years ago ?
I am polite to them, even the odd ones you cannot understand, however frustrating, they are just trying to do a job.
Although nowadays, maybe through complaints because of this they have moved call center's to UK,
Scotland and Newcastle, so now no fooker can understand em

Me mothers 87, bless her, really poor memory and not very computer literate.
I started looking after her bank account and phone bills etc recently.
So far I’ve got well over £100 back off talk talk telling them she hadn’t made premium rate calls which she actually had made. Some word search competition to win £500, £15 a call, the robbing sods. Anyhow, I put a block on premium rate calls.
On her bank account, there was a payment of £50 taken fraudulently (the bank actually contacted me to tell me), then this other company called Modomobi were taking £4.50 a week off her for some kind of fitness programme! Got a refund of £65 from them, which wasn’t as much as they took out.
Scammers are horrible twats who prey on the vulnerable.
Keeping a close eye on her financial stuff now and got the power of attorney. Should have done it sooner tbh.
If any of you have elderly parents, it might be worth keeping an eye on what’s going on, I was shocked.

I have just had a letter to say that a relative of mine has left an $11m fortune in Hong Kong and that I am the sole beneficiary.
They want to split it 50/50 ☺
Oddly enough I do have a relative called John M...
I went to his wedding at the Brooms church in Leadgate before he emigrated to Aus in the mid 60's and as far as I know he is still alive and stingy. I heard that some distant relatives stayed with him on a backpacking tour and he billed them for bed and breakfast!
Maybe he has croaked and I shpuld answer the letter

Get this from the "Australian Tax Office" 2 or 3 times a week.

I assume the authorities are busy addressing it.

Wait. No. I do not assume that. Not for one second.

The reason for the decline in Indian call centre number is due to the scammers, but not just because of complaints. It was picked up a few years ago that some legit call centres had staff selling customer details on to "unscrupulous" parties. Corruption is pretty rife in India, going alongside racial, religious, gender and caste based prejudice and discrimination, it became open for abuse. Its never been expressly said, mostly because of the fact banks and so on don't want to advertise it and have to pay out compensation, but it's the major reason why they've declined in the last 10 years.

    If it's too good to believe - there's a good reason <laugh>

Last week I got a call from a nice Indian lady asking me if I was interested in a job with Barclaycard.
I said I was interested and she sent me an email with the job spec and a list of questions asking for personal details.
I did a quick search on the company she works for and found that it was registered but had not been trading for the last 3 years.
There was no way in hell that she was getting any more of my personal details <laugh>
