never really got him, maybe just me so i found this today, now here's a mixture heavy metal, rock n roll.. pretty much all.
I enjoyed Elvis Costello's stuff, his first UK hit being 'Watching the Detectives,' I think one of his songs got copied from the clash. Just loved his own unique style. However, there was always something very dark and deep about him and his lyrics, you won't want to read this but for those that are interested... https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2020/11/elvis-costellos-armed-forces/617238/ I think it seems to suggest the looming side of a facist president (like Trump) was brewing in politics. Which is quite something when you consider the age of his songs. He's like an Aber with brains, I'm not sure if that is dangerous or not, because I'm not intelligent enough to understand all of its context and meanings. The article was wrote in November 2020, at the height of the problems in America. If nothing else it's a good marketing ploy.
When I was a about 7 years old and it came out I loved Oliver's Army but thought the lyrics were "Oliver's Zombie is here to stay" I thought that was cool. I still like it but I'm disappointed with the lyrics.
I think Elvis Costello might have agreed with your take on it in the 21st Century, "Oliver's Zombie is here to stay" in someways, I'd feel in a strange way it's not far from the truth.
