It is wasted. But the talent up there is just too strong. Our entire top six is incredible. We've already had to drop Bairstow down to four.

He could move up ahead of Morgan, but it's difficult to get him any higher than that.

The bigger issue for me, as I've said, is a lack of batting at 7. Moeen, Root and Livingstone are just three examples of batsmen who could easily bowl an over or two. Either of the latter two would also help to add an extra right hander into the middle order, especially if they were to slot in at 6 ahead of Morgan.

Tom's positive comments don't look so great with hindsight over the last few pages <laugh>

In my defence England chase that down 7 times out of 10 after the start they had.

Shows the importance of Root. Every chance that he'd have ensured that no second quick wicket would have fallen, and could have knocked it around for a run-a-ball 40, as a solid follow-up to that excellent opening stand.

Great news that Dawson and Abbott are both back in the squad for tomorrow (and I wasn't expecting Abbas for this week, so not worried about his absence), but I am slightly concerned about no Donald still.

Hopefully there's a reason other than his recovery still isn't yet complete.

    No Barker either.

Morgan out of the rest of the ODI series .

England captain Eoin Morgan has been ruled out of his side's final two one-day internationals in India with a hand injury.

Morgan split the webbing between his thumb and index finger during England's defeat in the first ODI on Tuesday.

Batsman Sam Billings is also out of Friday's second match with the shoulder injury he suffered on Tuesday but could be fit for Sunday's finale.

Lancashire's Liam Livingstone will make his ODI debut on Friday in Pune.

Dawid Malan, still in India following the Twenty20 series as cover for the ODI squad, has been added to the squad and is available for selection.

Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler will lead England in Morgan's absence.

    More to follow.

Anyone tell me why Tom Curran is a international cricketer?

Given our middle order propensity to collapse, I’d say that’s a bit too much. Pity, as we were doing reasonably well until the last 10 overs or so ....

That’s how India always play though. Topley did OK at the death, but leaving Tom Curran to bowl in the last 10 was suicidal. Moeen should have been saved until later.
