I’ll give McCann the credit if we go up, especially as Champions, that would be very nice to finally see. He’s nowhere near the best we’ve had, in fact IMO he’s the worst, worse than even Hateley. Well I’ve said that in the past, but if we go up, Hateley goes back to being the worst. I don’t know what it is about McCann, he’s just not really got a good persona, when it comes to public speaking. He gets annoyed way too easily, he should know when he’s being interviewed, they are going to try & wind him up. His comments last season, about ‘the bigger picture,’ or whatever it was. The fact he never apologised for the 8-0, the first words out of his mouth should have been sorry. However, despite even this season, some of the performances being nothing short of ****, he’s somehow managed to get us into a good position. If we can get up, he’s back where he started, now with a promotion under his belt, more experience, should give him a bit of confidence along with the relatively young squad we have. So who knows.
Disruption now would hardly be helpful. Disaster? Potentially in the context of this season but not a given. That said I'd rather stick than twist right now, but there'd be plenty of replacents equal to or better than him in the summer.
I would class him going at this stage of the season, it effecting us and potentially ending with is not getting promotion, as a disaster. As I said I'm my first comment, going in summer is a whole different ball game, but now at this stage and us where we are...a disaster for us and our season
Top of the 3rd tier . Great result for this year. We are here only because we ****** up big time last season and shouldn't be . Anyway upwards and etc.!
I’m still waiting for my apology for a **** meat pie in 2006 and I won’t go back to the kcom until I get one! Ann apology not a meat pie
Likewise, I've been traumatised ever since Martin Fish told me to my face that he didn't want supporters like me. I was the matchball sponsor for a Auto Windcreens game at Boothferry Park back in the day ( could have been some other mickey mouse cup game too) but the crowd was under 1,000 and he told me and my party that he didn't want us there. Which was nice.
No it's not very nice .Fish should hang his head in shame . What reason did he give for such a negative greeting , especially in an era when our club was at times close to oblivion. He should have been over the moon that you and your party had turned up and put your hands in your pockets .
Chazz. Ever bitten into a KCOM pie and wished it was a boothferry one? Dunno what it was but maybe the accompanying smell of Fag smoke and bovril? And maybe that meat pie was your only defence from a biting wind and turgid football, and was literally the one thing you held onto to survive the second half?
Totally wrong place to post this and I got sentimental. Pissed obviously. But I found this on book face. Need to put it somewhere. Mods, do as thou wilt.
Repost the pic on the stickied "Tigers History" thread on the first page (usually 1st thread). If you know when & who the opposition were add that info. I'm guessing it might be the Cup match we just lost against Man U. in '49? https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/hull-city-man-united-nostalgia-2561128
Just shows how life has changed and what football meant back then. Also, you never got the exposure on the telly and probably a lot of them wouldn't have had a telly. I bet there were few Hull Reds back then.
It could have been the game we sold Dean Windass ? Distant memories of Deano saying he thought he was going to Norwich but Bruce Rioch ( I think) stepped in with a last minute bid.
Exactly. I questioned him about something which he didn't like. I once took a big local sponsor to a game. He was 100% RL but through a relative of his who was a friend of mine we persuaded him that sponsoring City would be a good move. I informed the club beforehand who I was bringing and why, and we booked the matchball sponsors deal again for a night game. He came along with his accountant to do deal, yet Fish ignored him all night, until the very last few people were left in the sponsors bar after the game, and then only after much prompting he ushered the potential sponsor and his man into a side room, Virtually everyone had gone home by now, that's how late it was. The 'meeting' lasted less then five minutes, no deal was done and the chance was lost. I also tried it once with the the then main sponsor of Scunthorpe United who I did a bit of business with and became friends of, they were willing to back City too, but.....that's for another day.
A lot won't have had a tele then? About 99%. Television ownership only really started off after the Coronation. In 1949 you had to be very well off indeed to afford a TV. They only showed the second half of Cup Finals up to the Matthews Final of 1953. They picked a good un for the first full match.
Did you make the mistake of telling him points on the board were more important than games in hand. A lot of Hull folk take issue with that and think teams will win every game in hand, even when they have to play each other, whilst we won't go on a winning streak.
I used that picture in a poem I wrote called “ leather and laces, real footballers “ but it was the original in Black and white, not a big fan of colourising....wonderful picture all the same...
