I’ve seen all three episodes now. It’s a very difficult watch and not just because I knew some of the lads who were abused and the was coached by that monster. My absolute highest respect goes to all those who came forward to speak out at any point over the years. It must have been incredibly tough to make that decision and to go through with it. The FA should hang their heads in shame as the holders of the keys to our sport and even though they have taken actions in recent years with safeguarding and other actions, it is a long way from being secure. Just last month here in Northampton a local coach was put away for raping a 13 year old. My heart goes out to all those dealing with it still and the pain they no doubt still suffer. Stay strong.
Cap number 125 for Steve Davis today, to equal the British record, held by Peter Shelton. An amazing achievement for an outfield player, with the chance to set a new record over the next week.
Indeed. I know times were different then, but even dear old Dave Merrington said things like “well if only I’d known what was going on.” Wasn’t that part of his job? The contrast with what happened to poor Dave Jones not long afterwards is stark.
Yes, THAT was an utter disgrace. As Fats said, I salute those who came forward and reported the whole thing. Must have been incredibly hard for them to do that.
England Under 21’s continue to display the quality we expect from Aidy Boothroyd. 1-0 loss to Switzerland, with Portugal and Croatia to go. Remind me but didn’t we get knocked out after two group games last time as well? Played the senior teams 3-4-3 tactics used in the Nations League and created absolutely nothing, why on Earth are they sticking with this set up when 4-3-3 worked so well before? Sidenote: Jankiewitz had a good game for Switzerland.
