1-0 will do for me! But don't let any of us worry, Gary, bless him will ensure that Leicester's defeat by us isn't really an issue, after all they've got the League position for Europe, bit of an iffy goal anyway, and mention that Vesty will be a perfect fit for Leicester. It will be Rodgers who gets the main interview and at least three of those players too. Then 'just before we sign off, a quick final word with Ralph, eh Hussle, or something like that, the coach for Southampton' 'Ralph, you must be disappointed not to have had a more resounding win against a team who, frankly didn't seem to want or need the win? And secondly, how convinced were you that your goal was legitimate, VAR got it wrong didn't I!' etc etc etc you get the drift?
Cool, thanks Saint Ritchie. As confident as I was that SRL would always score I am equally convinced Macca would never save one when it is given
Leicester are playing quite well and have so many individuals who can turn the game, before you even start thinking about Perez the hat trick machine against us. I like watching them but don’t like Vardy or Rodgers. Rodgers because of the snide comment about our ambition might have changed, as he picked off our better players and Vardy - no reason needed. Pissing them two off and stopping them from getting to the final will be almost as good as winning the cup, for me.
Yeah, im guessing that comment was hyperbole because a cup win this season would be the potentially single biggest moment in our history. Of course '76 has defined a lot of what Saints are, but in modern football everything is 99% money dominated. So whilst it isn't as remarkable to win the FA cup as a premier league side rather than division 2, the fact we get european football (EL run worth between £15m-£35m) would mean we likely get to see what Ralph could do with decent spending money and not losing anyone. It would be hard to say one cup win is 100% more important than the other, but I for one think Hasenhuttl could achieve something truly remarkable with the right backing. Anyway... about not getting carried away
A good cup run used to be a nice little earner....especially for little clubs. I remember when Newport did well and got some useful money. I suppose Saints will get relative peanuts out of getting to a semifinal.
Not really, it was £360,000 just for beating Bournemouth. In this climate that's good money. Also even if we lose the semi we get another 450k. If we win that's 900k plus at least another 900k for reaching the final.
Thanks, now I remember, couldn't get to the semi but did with 40000 others to White Hart Lane when we absolutely trounced Nottingham Forest at the third time of asking in the quarter final. I still get goose bumps about that night. Every coach in the town(then), extra trains booked solid. What a night, got separated from my school mates and travelled back in the guards van of a train. Listening to our song in the Underground was something I'll never forget. The feeling after the semi though was total devastation as I felt we didn't do ourselves justice. Then along comes the next season, 3rd round, MU ! 2-0 up at half time, a record Dell crowd going mental, 2-3 FT. Charlton and co really showed their class. A very quiet bike ride home. All that was put right though in 1976.!!
So is this correct: we get £360k for beating Bournemouth and we get another £450k regardless of result from the semi final? Or will it be an extra £90k from the semi final on top of the £360k to bring the total to £450k?
