I don t think it would be easy. But I don’t think it would be catastrophic. If the takeover and subsequent plan is to play to be in the top 6 in a couple of years then it stands to reason that that squad should be more than capable of obtaining promotion.
I mean Roland missed the goal by about 200 yards there but the PL do gain from foreign investors and sponsors. It’s effectively increasing the scope of Brand Premier League, to a wider participant of viewers and therefore pushes the value of their product up as their market share is bigger. It’s indirect but it definitely works in PL favour, when folk like Sheikh Mansour buy a club.
It’s intangible and debatable that imo. The value of the PL brand is the product i.e. the togger itself and the competitive nature of the league. That’s what sets the value of the TV rights and PL sponsorship value, which is directly driven by the demand to view it across the globe. You could argue that City added to the value of the brand by bringing in the players and the manager they did, but conversely you’ll see people arguing that their dominance is reducing the competitive nature of the league and could devalue it over time. In the context of this thread, the idea that a takeover of Newcastle somehow automatically increases the value of the PL product is bollocks imo, it’s akin to saying that Moshiri taking over Everton and lobbing the £400m at it that he already has, has boosted the value of the PL, has it ****.
Ok, proving value is difficult. Does it detract from the value, i.e. is it in the interests of the PL to be "against" NUFC and its' takeover?
But due to restriction of trade, nobody in Saudi was able to buy BeIN as a service/subscription, so with the politics in play the PL lost £0 to piracy, though BeIN may have missed out on subscribers. BeIN had already paid the PL its' money and owed nothing due to the state of play in the Gulf, therefore the PL lost nothing. Now with everything that's being done, BeIN stand to gain from the region being friendly again. Once more the PL, however, gains nothing because the contract with BeIN is already settled. Besides which, I'm fairly certain there's piracy in.....every single country on Earth.
That avoids the point though. The piracy in Saudi was literally state condoned due to its geopolitical dispute with Qatar. The piracy cost BeIN money, as they’d paid for that region. The PL attempted to defend their broadcasting partner legally but got nowhere due to the Saudi state closing down any attempt to bring the issue to court. So how could the PL openly embrace the Saudis literally buying a 1/20th stake in the league after that? It’d be like inviting the fox into the hen house. They were always going to stone wall it.
Apparently Mourinho could be sacked if they don't win the League Cup. Nagelsmann is the favourite to takeover, Rafa is also being discussed.
I think the timing of Joses sacking and Bruce's could coincide around the same time.. If the club stays up I wouldnt rule it out and certainly not if the arbitration case is won..... Obvs all 3 of those factors have to coincide around the same time.
I get what you’re saying but James Rodriguez has 20m followers bro so I’d say the example you’ve used is probably way off the mark. Numbers mean money for most brands, in simple marketing terms. It’s how our ****tard CEO keeps getting folk to sign record sponsorship deals. Opening Saudi Arabia up as a legitimate source of interest (not fraud/piracy) surely makes sense to the PL?
James was free mate. Albeit you could defo argue that there’s no way he'd have signed for us if it wasn’t for Ancelotti who in turn only joined us due to the ‘project’, but it’s a tad convoluted. Saudi was a country that took the product legally until the Saudis dispute with Qatar though, so the value was already baked in to the BeIN price paid. You could argue Saudi interest in a club would increase the level of interest there but it still doesn’t undo what’s been done, and that imo is the salient point & always has been, the rest is just fluff.
Saudi lift ban... new PL market opened up for Bein... Qatar Happy... PL have more customers for their product... next round of rights bidding starts at a higher level with possible Saudi counter bids driving the process up. End result... higher revenue for PL which is their stated aim on behalf of the member clubs. money talks.
Apparently Mourinho has a break clause in his contract which means they can sack him for a reduced amount in the Summer. Lots of Spurs fans are calling him a cancer and the worst manager they've had in 20 years. You just know if we get taken over, we will end up with Maureen.
