The conclusion to the above article is key:

None of this is to take away from how bad Reading were by the time Nigel Adkins was given the boot in December 2014. Morale amongst players and fans was low, the team wasn’t organised well enough and could very well have been relegated had a change not been made.

That all being said, Adkins was dealt a very tough hand in his time in Berkshire. The finances of the club were shaky to say the least during his first full season and, despite the arrival of the Thai consortium in 2014, Reading weren’t in a good state to be able to bounce back in 2014/15.

Yet, in giving debuts to a whole raft of academy graduates, he did what many gaffers struggle to do in the modern game - he left a good legacy.

    How very positive.

Reputation for promoting young players will sit well with Sandgaard

Look on the bright side. It's not:
Iain Dowie, pardew, Tony Pulis, Big Sam, Karel Fraeye, Neil Harris, Kenny Jackett or Steve Evans <ok>.
There's also the fact that we'll now know that everyone is pulling in the same direction.

I think this has all been done and dusted for some time - probably coincided with us playing really ****e negative footy , just my opinion, if JJ’s going with Bows I hope we’ve got someone who’s going to fill that massive void, Not sure if Adkins is that person

JJ talked himself out the job last night ...not sure putting him in charge for 12 games going to do ...
Adkins could be a very clever appointment knows this division very well and if TS says he the man then he has my full support

If Adkins is appointed as Manager today then I am afraid that that's me out.... I can not support a team run by Roddy (a man I detest!)... so after 50+ years of supporting Charlton it looks like I'm out..... never thought I would say this but I miss the Belgian, he let Bow run the club without interference but this Dane with the appointment of Roddy has destroyed the Club I loved in double quick time.

I wish you all luck in watching Adkins football... if this terrible news happens later today then I will not be posting (or watching) about Charlton on Social Media again.

    Stay safe everybody.

Sad to see a post like this.
Allowing, as always, for my ignorance, what is the problem with this Roddy fella?

With all due respect AHLL (and I do have huge respect for you) I too a very sorry to hear you won't be posting anymore if Nigel Adkins is confirmed as our manager.

Personally I cannot see how Adkins is a more offensive appointment than the clueless head coaches who were foisted on us by Duchatelet. And as for missing him?
That sounds like you're preferring Duchatelet to Thomas Sandgaard.

Duchatelet may well have just let Bowyer run the squad his own way.
But Duchatelet almost killed our Club. He stripped it of all its property and assets, then sold CAFC to the thieves of ESI for one pound.
Duchatelet will always be the most hated owner in our history in my eyes.

Apart from the fact that Sandgaard literally saved Charlton Athletic, all he wants to do is help our Club become better.
Even if Adkins turns out to be a failure, his appointment will be nothing more than an honest mistake. A set-back on a longer journey to happier times.

Is that really such an awful crime that it makes you turn your back on fellow Charlton fans online?
I'm gutted at the prospect of losing you from this forum.
Will be down all day now. :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Managers come and go, so do players, agents, staff, directors, owners n all. Only the fans endure, through thick and thin.

What is so wrong with Roddy and Adkins? Adkins wouldn't have been my choice but he took Scunthorpe out of this division twice and he has a record of bringing in youngsters. Your comment about this Dane has destroyed the Club is totally out of order. If he hadn't bought the Club it would have gone into Administration and Elliott and Farnell would probably have got their dirty mitts on it. Your post is totally over the top and over dramatic.

I have supported Charlton for sixty years and it will take a lot more than the appointment of Adkins to stop me supporting them. I must say I am shocked by the timbre of your post.

Adkins to be unveiled as the new Charlton boss before this weekend’s game against AFC Wimbledon. Today or tomorrow.
