i think overall, this is going to be a very bad thing for the club. he might have lost some of the fans recently, but he had earned a rough patch or two having dealt with what he has.

going forward, if we now appoint an unknown dane, we'll lose even more support or stability because that sort of thing over the last 6 years or so has not worked at all. people will then turn on the owner or just not be interested anymore.

this almost feels roland'esque, in that as soon as we get something good to build on, something torpedo's it and the new norm is a worse state than before.

I highly doubt we'll get an unknown Dane manager , the backlash would be crazy. Plus the January signings would suggest that it wouldn't happen too. Yes we signed Schwartz but on paper that signing doesn't seem that bad , we will have to wait and see though

A very sad day to be honest. When I saw this mentioned I thought he'd decided to go to Portsmouth, who apparently want him to replace Kenny Jackett.

I guess you have to admit he has done the honorable thing and moved, and although this season has been pretty dire, there was a lot going on preseason which would have influenced the club and the squad. I'm happy to remember Lee on the mictrophone after the Rochdale game as we went into the playoffs, thanking the fans for their support, and watching him in the delerium after the Bauer winner at Wembley. Football can be a fickle sport sometimes.

I hope we take a bit of time now and try to get a manager with a proven track record of good football and success. If results go wrong, I expect people will start screaming for a quick appointment, but we are in position to get someone decent now.

Good luck Lee, and thanks for the many happy memories, and sticking through the problems under the Southall/Farnell crisis last summer.

I think we could have a chance if Sandgaard threw his wallet at him.
Wilder had a 3 fantastic seasons then this one. Other Premier clubs will not be queueing up for him.

Never been a fan of Birmingham. I'd wish Bow every success if he goes there, but prefer Portsmouth as a club, Still, I wasn't expecting todays news, and the idea that he has a new job lined up makes sense.

All sorts going on in the comments section of the tweet announcing his departure.

Birmingham fans arguing with Villa and Leicester fans.

Rangers fans trolling because Lee said Aribo going from Charlton to Rangers was a step down <laugh>

And Swindon fans trying to get rid of John Sheridan.

As well as a few Millwall and Palace

Dougie Freeman or Ian Dowie could do a job for you.

LondonNewsonLine showing a Sandgaard hoping a long term manager will be in place by the end og the week.
Things must have been brewing for a while.

I thought someone had had a word with him when he stopped laying into the players post-match, but his more relaxed demeaner could have been due to him having this escape route.

    Interesting comments from Sandgaard.

Thomas Sandgaard has outlined one key area he wants the next Charlton Athletic manager to focus on – developing even more talent from the club’s academy.

Lee Bowyer resigned as the Addicks boss on Monday morning and is set to take charge at Birmingham City, with an announcement expected today.

Sandgaard is flying into London this week to focus on finding his replacement with Johnnie Jackson, who had been assistant manager under Bowyer, in caretaker charge for tonight’s home match against Bristol Rovers.

“As you know already we are a team who play attacking football and I’d like to get even more emphasis on a very creative midfield that can create chances – I think we had that in the fall,” Sandgaard told the South London Press. “I’d also like to make sure we get a manager in place who puts a lot of emphasis on developing players, not just for their careers but so they become as productive for the club while they are here.

“I’d also like to do even more integrating the academy with the first team, as much as practically possible, so that we get even more of a steady stream of talent coming through the ranks.

“Those are some of the things I’d like to do more of. There are potential motivations of who is going to be driving in that manager position.”

Asked how he assessed Bowyer’s time working under him, Sandgaard said: “Before I took over he stuck by the club and did a tremendous job.

“We put a team together and then he strengthened the team again in January. He got better and better tools to work with. We’re slowly putting ourselves in a position where we have a real chance of the play-offs.

“He has done an amazing job for the club over the last several years and was an important part of the rebuilding. I’m very happy to have worked with Lee. I wish him the best for the future.”

A shame we never had TS when we had a golden period, with Lookman, Gomez, Pope Konsa coming through. Unfortunately you can't guarantee that sort of quality.

with not a lot of youth coming through at the moment it's pretty important that the summers transfer business is good. if it were my club, i'd be looking at acrington stanley, burton and trying to sign their young players. all would be hungry and would jump at a move to us.
