Agree. We were overawed by the occasion I think, far too frantic in possession and playing too many long passes from our own box and losing possession. 2nd half we were far better and started passing the ball, building up pressure and getting higher up the pitch. Like you say, it was low quality but the one piece of play that won the game was exceptional
Not sure I agree with you there. Will be gutted if we don't go up, but I've now seen us win at Wembley even if it was only on the telly. Was 3 in 73 but can't remember a thing about it. It's only a crap cup but tonight it feels like the world Cup, fa Cup, champions league and Premier league all rolled into one.
As a Saints fan I send you many congratulations on the win today guys. Sunderland did more than good. You went and won the cup! If ever a team and a really decent set of fans deserved some joy and happiness, then it's you.
Whenever this lad calls it a day, he MUST be kept at the club. Let him manage the u18s, or get him involved coaching the 1st team. The lad is R&W through and through
Fantastic day, played better in the past and lost, not the greatest trophy, but it’s a trophy and the main thing to me is that we’ve finally broken our Wembley jink. Just relieved we’ve finally done it and we can move onwards and upwards now.
Can I just put our Wembley history into perspective... This is our first win in eight attempts in the last 48 years, there are teams throughout the league's including the Premiership whose fans would give their right arms to have their team involved in EIGHT Wembley finals in that time scale. I was lucky enough to be there in 1973 and I was as much on the edge of my seat today as I was trying to see that second half out against Leeds. Yes today has got a 'monkey's off our backs but I've never seen it like that, and have been grateful for my club giving me the chance to walk up Wembley way that many times, something other clubs fans will never achieve. Now I'm going to put the drink down on this very special day. HTL.
