....and why it matters, 'Mickey Mouse's cup or not. I'm 60 tomorrow. The last time we won at Wembley I was 12. Forty eight bloody years, forty eight. Eight defeats and I've been to seven of them, missed the FRT. Ha'way my bonny lads.
I'm 58 this year and missed even watching our last victory. Hhaaawwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy the Lad's... https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ad-to-resurrection?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
Everyone’s dream to get to Wembley but for SAFC it’s a recurring nightmare since 73 been 7 times and walked out a loser , no fans being there might break the hoodoo - bloody hope so! Know one thing if fans had been allowed would have still been there , gluttons for punishment SAFC supporters . Good luck lads !!!
it'll be a wonderful day on Wearside when people no longer have 1 9 7 3 as their pin code for everything ... ... drop your credit card in Sunderland and you're screwed
I'm fifty on Tuesday so hopefully a perfect birthday present. Remember vaguely my father leaving for Wembley in 1973 via a double decker bus which my uncle was apparently driving which was all covered in Sunderland rosettes.
Very true ! Even had it as pin codes for my ipad and phones too. No wonder I've lost several women over the years.... can't have been that hard to work out
Aged 8 I won 5p and a program from the match at school for predicting Sunderland would win 1-0. I was the only kid in the class (here in N Wales) predicting Sunderland would win. It was only years later that I got to appreciate that my teacher's husband had gone to Wembley and was a Leeds fan. I remember Monty's exploits and Portafield's goal but not much else apart from the massive feeling of tension. 48 years is a long, long time. Micky Mouse cup or not, I feel the same mix of hope and tension now. It is a cup final at Wembley and despite being favourites and tables being turned, with us in the higher division, my gut keeps churning. The horrible, dry voice from the depths of time that lurks in the darkness at back of our minds keeps on repeating, 'But this is Sunderland, this is Sunderland!' I want us to win, I can't see Tranmere winning and yes, this is still Sunderland, but my hope has been rekindled. It's the hope... Anyone that says Sunderland fans are arrogant or deluded just doesn't know us. They don't know about 'But this is Sunderland' and they don't know about The Hope...
unfortunately i doubt there will ever be another '73, it was not just the final but the whole build up from the start of the season, seeing it spread around the area as more and more 'got on board', even after the final whistle it still grew with red and white everywhere. people just do not have the interest now, as kids we all talked football, played football, lived football and looked up to our local heroes...i think football (and sport in general) is needed even more in society now to get kids out of the house. this might be the last time some of us see not only a wembley win but some silverware and we are gonna enjoy the fecker !!!!
I retire at the end of the year, I was at the 73 final, but it is literally a whole working life since we last won there.
Guys - it’s only a ‘Mickey Mouse’ cup when you’re not in the final. A Wembley final and a cup is silverware. Enjoy it
