Joke ref. A comfortable win but should have been more to make next week's game a chance to rest up key players.
Job done. Easily the better side and we had two very late chances from Bale and Vini to get a (likely) tie killing third goal. Davies MOTM for me, very good all round display from him. Not sure why we took Lamela off when we did though. Should’ve taken Kane off when he got the second and that knock now means he may not be 100% for the NLD. Dele and Son woeful, the latter should’ve never started though as he’s been dead on his feet for a while now.
The club should be complaining like **** to UEFA about the ref...to at least make sure the donkey properly refs the 2nd leg. Shocking display. They were simply kicking lumps outta us and as for that penalty decision
Their game plan was to disrupt our play by kicking lumps out of us every time we were on the ball. The ref aided and abetted this game plan.
Only one mention of Sissoko and that was regarding the smack in the mouth he received! I thought he played well in CM tonight. I don't recall him losing possession, he made some smart passes too and I thought he complemented NDombele nicely. Lamela had a good game as did Kane. Son needs a complete rest for a few weeks or a pay rise, whatever will bring his mojo back. Bale has finally come good and his dipping free kick was a great effort. Don't think there was VAR in this game (are they due in the QFs?). I did wonder whether Hojbjerg was deliberately seeking a yellow card to ensure he wouldn't face a ban in the next round, should we progress.
They could have stabbed one of our players, ref wouldn't have blinked. It was a farcical performance from the officials. That's an interesting theory about Hojbjerg as he did diddly squat after coming on, kind of running around aimlessly. Can't recall him playing a single pass. Perhaps the objective was exactly as you've deduced. Jose certainly has previous - remember Alonso and Ramos deliberately picking up suspensions against Ajax in 2010?
No mention of VAR being deployed in our game, but was in the Goons. So not a competition decision. One has to assume it was just a dreadful decision by all officials - which at least would be consistent with their whole feckin' game.
It's been in since the end of the group stage. I think he fell asleep or something. Chalked off a perfectly good Milan goal earlier at Old Trafford. Definitely supposed to be doing this round.
