Tonight was a genuine test, and for me we were class. Had a game plan, looked very good for large amounts or the game and a lovely goal from Jones, even if the pundits can't give much credit for it. Showed he is a class above. He was prepared to gamble by chasing down from about 40 yards.

it's about time we had something to shout about. Portsmouth weren't great tonight and are going through an iffy time, but normally, when a team are going through a patch like Portsmouth are now they usually get back on track with a win against us. So I'm taking all positives from tonight as it's as clear as crystal we're improving.

Portsmouth were the boy who cried wolf ...

.... dived so often the referee became 'foul blind'.

Just watched their pen appeal back a few times.
Initially I thought Flanagan just got the man, but then watched it again and looked at the pompey player.
He got nowhere near the ball so Flanagan must have touched it first.

Almost right from the start the commentators were going on about how Portsmouth have been playing a winger at full back...bloody hell have they seen our injuries and the number of players playing out of position?

Best performance I’ve seen from a Sunderland team in a really long time. Starting to think O9 would get man of the match if he played in goal!

That was ****ing excellent. As complete and professional performance as I've seen in years from Sunderland. Brilliant from 1-11
O'Nien, Winchester and Jones outstanding, McGeady set the tone with that early shot. Brilliant
