Two teams at the opposite end of the table have a week to prepare for this clash at Hillsborough.

Regardless of the results on Saturday the two clubs will be in the same position as they are now. The Owls suffered a 3-0 loss to Reading while Norwich beat Luton by the same score. Wednesday still have a number of injury concerns in their squad and an almost full strength Canaries look to capitalise on any weakness. One factor which might help Norwich is with Wednesday desperate for points they can't defend all match and might look to attack the visitors.

The two clubs played each other as far back as 1908 in an FA cup match a 2-0 win for Norwich and then they didn't play each other until 1935 another FA cup game where the Canaries lost 0-1. In total Norwich have 18 wins, 16 draws and 24 losses. In the 2000s Sheffield Wednesday were certainly a bogey team with 10 games between 2003 and 2014 and only two points picked up with 8 straight defeats between 2005-2009! Glad we snapped that run!

This would usually be an along came Norwich certainty but we are too good this season.

Is there are past tense for complacent?

 

Yes there is, in American English, which permits the verbalisation of virtually anything. The verb "to complacent" means to make complacent, as for example in "A long run of matches undefeated complacented the team". So one might say, for example, "Farke's priority was to decomplacent the team". I'm sure Canary Spring and other US-based City fans will be able to confirm.

 

This is true, But, I've never heard the word used as a verb as in "complacented."

 

Back on topic (more or less), but looking at the fixture list I have realised Swansea will have played both their games in hand by the time we play this match. So we will have a pretty good idea of just how close they are to us before kick off

I didn't realize that. I thought Robbie was being serious. If it was a joke, I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Now I feel complaicent about the whole thing.

The modern habit of creating verbs out of nouns drives me mad. There are good socio-historical reasons for American English's tendency towards simplification of the language, but that's no reason for English English to follow it.

All very well in theory, but it is exactly what didn't happen on Saturday against Luton (see my post #87 on the Luton match thread), a lapse which all but led to Luton scoring an early goal. That quote from Paul Warne -- “[Norwich] play with an abandonment" -- hits the nail on the head. We get the bit between our teeth and throw caution to the winds.

 

That was true in that one instance, but my impression was that we managed the balance between defence and attack well after that. Aarons and Giannoulis don't both rush forward like last year and when they do commit forward McLean and/or Skip provide cover.

 

They aren't robots of course tactics won't work 100% of the time but we didn't concede and scored 3 which over the 90 minutes was sufficient.

You just like to argue
