If we weren't still in the FA Cup then I would be happy to go full strength on Wednesday but it just seems foolish to get KWP and Diallo to play 3 times in 8 days when they've just returned. And let's be honest, with or without those two on Wednesday, we are very likely to lose.
I have no problem with resting key personnel. Like I said, the problem I have is specifically with a CB trying to play RB. Personally I’d opt for Ramsey in that position, if I were Ralph. But I’m not Ralph.
Ralph at 00:01 in the match: "Come on Alex, it can't be worse than the last....oh **** you're off already".
Pretty much a free hit for the guys on Weds. Nothing to lose for the Ramseys' and Jankiewitz's. I'd tell them to get out there and relish the opportunity to play against the best team in the league. They will find out a lot about themselves and what they need to improve.
In my mind this game is not important in the grand scheme of things. Brighton onwards is. Let's put the best team out when our resources more closely match the opponents or are deemed better. MC can put out a combination of all sorts and will still be favourites to win. As you and others say try the younger guys with a last minute reminder the game is 90 min not 8!
It is important. We need every point. Forster Bedders Vesty Salisu Djenepo Bertrand JWP jankewitz Armstrong Redders Adams
but we don’t need every point. Why do you think we need every point? This season has shown at all clubs that if players are over played with this congested season, they get injuries. Over the next three games, we play the champions elect, a bottom end rival and a cup quarter final. My guess % likelihood of getting a result in those games are: 20%, 60% and 65% and in terms of reward, beating Brighton takes points from a direct competitor, beating Bournemouth takes into the semi-final of the cup. The risk/reward is glaringly obvious.
I wouldn't even start Armstrong. He is a player that needs to be carefully managed and games in quick succession like this are of bigger risk to him than others. And given how important he is to us, I'd definitely be saving him for Brighton. This is a game for Redmond and Djenepo to show what they are about.
We also have a week between the south coast games... good chance to work on things and have some rest.
Figure of speech. We can’t assume anything from later games so a point Wednesday is another one in the bag. My suggested line up still rests key players.
I agree, but those on the pitch compete. I would definitely rest those at risk ... KWP (I know, who plays; Ramsey or Stevens maybe) and Diallo for definite.
or for this game we change tactic and just sit deep. Don’t press this lot and conserve some energy. Keep it right and hope to catch them on the break.
