1957, November 2nd. won 3-0 against Chester. I was 9 years old and went with 2 friends. Can't happen these days.
Maybe exactly the same as me? That was my 2nd match. I can remember little bits of it ... like a big fat Man City fan a few seats along from me (North Stand) with a great big rosette pinned to his coat (yes, people actually wore them back then!). It was my 2nd match as had to go to the Carlisle league game before it to get tickets for the Man City game. Walked in a Man City 'fan' (from watching them as a 10 y.o. on telly - Lee, Summerbee, Bell, etc .... great team), walked out a City fan.
My dad, not a football fan, took me his football mad son to city in Nov/Dec 1967 to see us loose 2-1 to Carlisle as a birthday treat. He repeated it the following season, also against Carlisle and we lost again. He had some mates who went every week and they agreed to take me ( from Driffield) and after that I was hooked. I've tried going cold turkey a couple of times including last season but like a drug I keep going back. UTT.
Can the next question be easier please, like what did you have for breakfast. No idea what was my first game, do remember going to the West ham cup game though.
1982, Port Vale at home. I was only 4, and my dad took me to boost the crowd numbers in the post-receivership days. Don't remember a thing about the game, which is a shame because Dennis Booth scored a 40 yarder and gave a Golden Goal girl a Cleveland Steamer in celebration (allegedly)
Yes, first game I went to a bunch of us went at an age which wouldn't be allowed in now without an adult. All over the country young people set off on a Saturday for an afternoon of freedom and letting off steam and became addicted to it. Now, unless there dad or another relative is free to take them, and, just as importantly, can afford it they are lost to the game as they could well find other things to occupy them on a Saturday afternoon. This will as time goes by have an impact. Look at photos of games in pre all seater days, a sea of young people behind the goals or at the front down the sides of the pitch.
Very true, if I had to rely on one of my parents to take me, then I would probably never have become a life long fan. My father had no interest in Football, I finally persuaded him to go to a game, against Everton in the cup, and he lasted 20 minutes and went home. He couldn't stand the crowds.
1964 - Ron Rafferty's home debut (I think) against Peterborough. A boring 0-0 followed by another 0-0 against Colchester and then a 2-2 against Barnsley when Chris Chilton scored the first City goa I saw, a 25 yard rocket into the bottom left hand corner at the Bunkers Hill end. Football wasn't great really but I loved the atmosphere.
, My Dad used to take me to reserve games at first - always enjoyed the half time crisps - this would be around 1950. My first experience of the first team, also with my dad, was around the 1952/53 season. Can’t recall the actual game but I think it was Blackburn (remember the Blue and White shirts), was big crowd as well and we won. Started going on my own and with mates around 55/56 when I was 11. Have stood or sat in all areas of Boothferry Park and have lots of fond memories (I mislay the bad memories and can’t remember where I put them). Love the KCom for the amenities and comfort, but mainly for the success we have had there, which I hope will one day return.. Now been a passholder or equivalent continuously since about 1960, so totting up have been a Tiger fan for close to 70 years and still loving it. 08.03.2021
