Have rewatched the penalty definitely a decent save . Good height for the keeper yes but hit with power .Seen online other successful pens he’s taken and they are similar . Not sure wether he will come good so far he seems abit lost and reminds me of a network signing of the past but wouldn’t write him completely. Thinking about it he hasn’t really played enough to judge him .
His family's still in Denmark and his wife is pregnant. Can't be easy for him in the present circumstances. I've looked at the compilation of his goals and he's just not going to get the sort of chances playing for us as he got in Denmark, so I'm not sure how it's going to go for him, being asked to adapt his style of play at his age.
Telegraphed the pen with body shape and run up which made the keepers mind up to dive left. Perfect height for the keeper, hence the save. Schwartz never looked confident. These things happen so we move on and if he gets another one he does better with it.
An excerpt from a post I made on ITTV, replying to a message that Lyle Taylor would have scored that penalty... Lyle Taylor has taken 29 penalties in his senior career, and failed to score with 8 of those (72% score rate) Granted, he scored 12 penalties out of 14 taken for Charlton (86% score rate) Taylor's record when he came to Charlton was 15 taken, 6 not scored (60% score rate) Ronnie Schwartz has taken 17 penalties in his senior career and failed to score with 3 of those (82% score rate) He has taken just 1 penalty for Charlton (0% score rate) Schwartz's record when he came to Charlton was 16 taken, 2 not scored (87% score rate) Lee Bowyer had no reason to doubt Schwartz's penalty taking ability. Yes, it wasn't a great penalty on the day. But these things happen. There is no evidence of poor decision making, just the inconsistency during play that tends to happen more at this level than does in higher leagues. Penalties are missed or saved even there though, nearly every match day. What doesn't happen nearly every match day though is a player telling his gaffer he won't play, even though his contract has not expired.
I think the fact that Taylor was also playing every match where as Schwartz only gets cameo appearances may also have been a contributory factor in yesterday’s missed opportunity
Said at the time it wasn't a bad penalty. Whether he gets into a scoring groove at Charlton will probably depend on the service he gets, which hasn't been good for any of our strikers this season. The penalty was just a bynote.
