So that's where I went wrong, I forgot to pick mine up so it's all "yes dear" and "no dear" from me now

Ok, this how I’ve worked it out

chicken + chicken + chicken = 60
Therefore each chicken = 20

Chicken + eggs + eggs = 26
Therefore
20 + eggs + eggs = 26
26 - 20 = 6
Therefore each eggs = 3 (with each egg worth 1 using the image of three eggs per basket)
20 + 3 + 3 = 26

Eggs + banana + banana = 15
Therefore
3 + banana + banana = 15
15 - 3 = 12
Therefore each banana = 6 (with each banana worth 1 using the image of 6 bananas in each bunch)

Chicken + eggs x banana (using the image of one egg basket having 4 eggs in it and the image of 4 bananas in that bunch)
Therefore using BODMAS
20 + (4 x 4) = ?
20 + (16) = 36

The answer is 36

 

the answer is what was wrong with the old way at least everyone could arrive at the same answer

 

I’ve actually edited my answer to show what I believe to be my correct working out with answer being 36 accounting for each discrepancy in the images on the last line.
What do you mean by the old way? If you mean BODMAS then I was taught that back in junior school in the 1970s and as far as I’m aware that method of working out has been used for centuries.

I never did bodmas at school I had never heard of it untill around 2015
And I would of worked the equation left to right
However now I know the process I work with bodmas
I had basic education 50s and early 60s

 

using the old way and in £ if a boss tells you you will get an increment of x times using the old way is 96 the daft way would be36
then a tank is in a ravine and needs extracting with blocks and tackle BODMAS wont work building a Bailey bridge and having to work out the stress on the sway beams and flooring to take tank or lorry using that system would cause fatalities, and could not work on practical problems,

 

never used it in my life never had to and had no problems, indeed twice i have had firms trying to shaft me who have made mistakes using that system, only to give the correct amount when threaten with lawsuits

You’re talking about using different mathematical equations for different problems though. Using a block and tackle requires you to work out mechanical advantage doesn’t it? To work out stresses requires a different formula. In your instance you’re talking about sway beams. I’ve got no idea what they are or how to work out stress on them.
The original question posed there to my mind required a working out using basic BODMAS principles.

 

Same here Vince, but every equation that I ever seen used brackets to show the order. It is confusing when they don't use brackets and that's where BODMAS becomes necessary.
