This is a link to how a woman was denied PIP as a result of the nurse talking to her in a face to face interview having lied in the report.
It’s bad enough that this type of thing is still happening, and wouldn’t have been revealed if her partner had not recorded the interview, but a large portion of the blame lies with the process that could be changed by the government.
People with lifelong debilitating and/or disabling conditions and/or terminal illness should never have to go through this inhumane process, when they have sufficient evidence from specialist consultants that they are in need of this support.
Even after her claim was agreed on appeal and punitive costs added, ATOS refused to pay out, until she sent in debt collectors.
    Shameful.

Received notification of the Census today, a letter with a log on code etc.
Supposed to be done on Sunday 21st March, but can be done sooner if you want, as long as the information entered would be the same as if left until the 21st.
I think it is great that one member of the household is allowed to enter the relevant information for everyone living in the household, rather than everyone have to enter their own information separately.
Thinking about suggesting this system to the government, for registering voters, rather than make individuals register themselves, to ensure that every eligible person gets registered. Do you think they will go for it?

Top level discussions have taken place within Downing Street about how to pay for renovations to Boris Johnson's official flat, the BBC understands.

Sources said setting up a charity to allow members of the public to donate towards the revamp has been considered to cover the cost.

Are they ****ing joking (if true)

I’m happy to go in and paint/wallpaper for them. I think at £1 billion it would be considered a bargain .....

I did ours this morning (after having received 3 letters). Funnily enough, as I was nearly finished another 2 came through the letter box together.

One was in a red envelope and was the first one to actually point out that it is a legal requirement to provide the info. All the others were akin to a prize draw competition invite, with a £15 voucher on offer .

Enjoyed this post very much, but I'm not even sure this is true. She loathes the fact that an out of touch political elite talking out of their arses in Westminster can so greatly affect the life chances of her fellow citizens. So do I. Covid has highlighted the gross inequalities of our political system which is partly a result of the ever-greater centarlisation of deciision making and consequent lack of accountability.

It's interesting that so called 'freedom-loving' conservatives fear devolution of power. Sturgeon wants independence for Scotland, but in a sense this simply captures what a lot of us want - to have more local control and accountability. I used to like the fact that my local council ran our schools, for example. Not because they were bleeding marvellous at doing it, but the fact that if they cocked up I knew who to bollock and could turn him/her/them out come polling day. Now schools are run by academy chains overseen by faceless bureaucrats that I can't get to.

It's interesting that in France, Macron has scrapped Taxe d'habitation. This is like council tax and pays for local services. In France the communes have a deal of autonomy. Of course doing away with a tax is always popular, but I'm not convinced that this is not a simple piece of drawing control back to the centre. In a French commune if you're not happy about something whether it's the state of your roads or a plan to build a wind farm next door to your house then you get yourself down to the Mairie. The mayors of even the smallest communes exercise enormous power and are directly accountable - after all he/she lives in the commune and can be collared by their constituents at the boulangerie.

I'd quite like devolution for North West England. I do wonder whether the fear about Sturgeon is where the demands for greater local control will end. It's much easier if you're in a clearly defined country, like Scotland. But it's only geography.

Pretty much bang on, except the bit about her hating the English. She doesn`t. She loves Scotland, and hates the Westminster establishment.

Yeah, the rise of Scottish nationalism isn't really a byproduct of hatred of the English, because let's be real here: the Scottish weren't head-over-heels for England pre-2015. If love of England was ever a prerequisite for union it'd have died out as soon as the debts for the Darien scheme were paid*. Rather, it's that there's now a fairly compelling argument that Scotland has a better idea of what is good for Scotland than Great Britain as a whole. Though arguably, that's a pretty low bar to clear.

*As someone with a particular love of dumb history, that Scotland lost its independence for 400+ years because.of an idiotic scheme to settle a murderous stretch of malarial swamp with Scots is hard to beat.

Whilst I agree they 1% is appalling and an insult to all those who have kept the country going for the last year, the 1% is a little over £500m not £82m.

Still peanuts to the amount the govt has wasted and given out and disgusting that the NHS has been treated this way.

The 1% is an insult to them especially after wasting of 37billion on track and trace and PPE orders that were no good.
Did read this morning that the nurses union may call for strike action......there hasn’t been a nurses strike since the 80s.

    100% with you.

So often in the last year we have called everyone of them heroes. Boris has even said they saved his life. All the government can find is a measly 1% to reward them. Absolute outrage IMO...probably the worst thing this government have done,

Just to be clear - a below inflation pay rise is in fact a pay cut

By offering only a 1% pay rise to NHS workers, the Government has allowed itself room to maybe up it to 2.5% in view of the public outcry and can then be seen as "listening" to the concerns of the public. Very manipulative of them.

I agree with both of you. They have done it to see if they can get away with it and depending on the outcry can up it a bit, whilst still paying less than they should.
