Largely agree with Rob' list: -Backup GK -RB to replace Aarons -CB to challenge Gibson+Hanley, if not quite as ready yet. -DM Skipp would be great but we'd need another too. Tettey, Trybull, Sitti not sufficient quality backups. -Attacking mids: I think we need 4 genuine quality options here - I'd currently only put Cantwell and Buendia in that category.
Sorry I should have said: personally, I don't think we need a replacement for Aarons because (injuries permitting) I think Byram is good enough at least for the short term and I would like to see Mumba given a shot. Not a priority for me.
Sorry, but though not his fault, Byram seems to be the latest occupant of the Louis Thompson / Matt Jarvis ward in physiotherapy. Need a more reliable and fit option, imho. [You get what you pay for?]
"Advanced talks"?? I'm resigned to losing the guy, but if / when we get the circa £35m asking price, we can buy a really decent Skipp replacement and an upgrade on Mario at number 10. And still have change.
Good point. I don't expect a permanent move in any shape or form but I can imagine Spurs considering letting him stay with us for PL season 1st team experience if they're not 100% sure he's ready for their team. Better to play most games for us than warm their bench. Maybe wishful thinking.
I'm sceptical about the source for this: "The source of the story is a slightly unusual one...as it comes via a fan blog called The Boy Hotspur.com. The story has been picked up by Teamtalk and it’s being featured on Apple News, as a result." How many blog rumours like this last summer turned out to be complete fabrications, like the Buendia to Arsenal rumour picked up by many other blogs because it was so easy to cut and paste. Not at all convinced by this one.
I think that's a possibility, Hairy. It all depends on whether Jose thinks he's ready for regular playing with Spurs. He could just feel Oli's development would be accelerated by maximum playing time for us next year. I'm not counting on it, but it could happen.
I saw a story a couple of weeks of so ago about our interest in Rhys Healey of, maybe Toulouse. The got him from Russ at MK. Anyone heard about this?
Not hear anything about that, but it's completely random that I would give it more likelihood of being true than mainstream tabloid stuff. I guess cheap cover for Pukki?
I remember that as well. He does have the look of a SW recruit. A homegrown player (he's Welsh) he's 26 so knows the English leagues and plays as a striker or LW, to cut in and shoot or pass with his right foot. His goalscoring rate has been high over the past 4 years. Toulouse paid £450k for him so would probably want about 4 times that should we be interested.
£5 mil, Rick, according to Walesonline. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport.../former-cardiff-city-striker-tearing-19872901
Considering that most of his success has come at League Two or below and now in Ligue 2 in France, it's hard to say whether he'd add to what we already have. Is he a better option than Idah, Soto or Sinani? I can't see us giving up a squad place for him next year, so I suspect we may have moved on if we were ever interested.
I agree with that. It may be that French football suits him. I don't watch other leagues play (except the PL) so I don't know the different styles of football around Europe.
Is the waffle house in St Giles still going? Probably one of the oldest restaurants in Norwich if it still is.
