It seems the Newcastle players are siding with Ritchie and pushing for Jones to be manager, at least for the rest of the season. All of this uproar couldn't have come at a worse time for them, and Sam is clever enough to use the situation to galvanise his players. With the injuries to Bruce's forwards it's ironic that they really need Ritchie ... .... it'll be interesting to see if he makes the squad or the first team. Bruce seems to be desperate for the sack imo, but will Ashley want to give him a massive payoff on top of the £4m he handed to Sheff Wed to get him to SJP.
I have absolutely no doubt that if crowds had been allowed into grounds Bruce would have had a dig at them by now. Let’s face it they would have been up in arms ages ago and he’d be blaming them for the poor results. He couldn’t give e a shiny **** whether he is sacked or not. He’s a financial winner either way. Once the manager has a dig at the supporters he is finished. Bruce woukd have played that card a long time ago.
Ritchie sounds toxic tbh, doesn't get regular starts and receives some criticism in public so loses his rag and turns the dressing room against the manager. God forbid another manager comes in who doesn't play him every week or dares to criticise him. Terrible timing for them like with where they are in the league and injuries. You can say he's passionate but does **** like that help their situation?
Has he tried the opposite tack, the infamous 'It's just not the same playing in an empty stadium when you are used to playing in front of 150,000 Geordies, with another 25,000 unable to get in and just waiting outside for someone to have a Griegs-induced heart attack so they can take their place'?
To be fair, he hasn't gone to the press and given an interview. Bruce has confronted him, on a very delicate issue, in front of the other players. That's rank bad management is any business. To physically threaten the man, in any case, is a sacking offence. If Ashley wanted him out I'd say he now has a case for summary dismissal.
Well this all sounds like great fun. Implosion imminent and a relegation to follow shortly after would be a marvelous spectacle. Roll on derby day next season.
The article says that Bruce made a criticism of him in his post match interview and Ritchie reacted by going off his nut. I'm not saying Bruce has acted wisely. He was goaded into doing something foolish out of anger. However a manager should be able to drop players and criticise them publicly (even if it's a bad move) without having the dressing room turned against him because someone's ego was bruised.
The report reads that Ritchie asked to speak to Bruce after his post match interview. Bruce refused and said he'd see him at training. Ritchie was asked to go to the manager's office but refused. Bruce came out and confronted him whereupon there was an argument witnessed by the players. Imo Ritchie was blamed for losing 2 points that may take them down and is entitled to receive an exanation.
Sounds like they've both acted like twats to me. Personally any player who turns the dressing room against the manager because they can't take being criticised can **** off for me. It's all good anyway.
I think that point arrived a while back tbh ... ... and I doubt a minor squad player could manage that tbh.
Depends how loud his voice is and how bitter he is. I never said he was the only problem anyway or that it wasn't Bruce's fault more than anybody else's. I'll say any player who helps to turn the dressing room against the manager can **** off if that helps
Bruce and Allerdyce have both made a career out of being paid off mid-contract. I would imagine its water off a ducks back for both of them, there's always another club stupid enough to give them a job. Apparently Big Sam built his holiday villa with his £2M payoff from NUFC, and called it St. James ! I wonder what Brucey will spend his lumper on.
I'm pretty sure that Bruce had managed to turn the dressing room against him all by himself because outbursts like that don't result from single events but from a the release of a tide of smaller niggles and sleights endured over weeks and months.
They can do if the single event is a particular player being dropped, some players react well to it some turn bitter. The public criticism sounds like the straw that broke the camel's back, bruised his ego. No doubt Bruce buggering things up left right and centre is largely to blame for their situation.
I'm sure it's in Big Sam's autobiography that whenever his wife wanted a new kitchen or something he would push for a move in his playing days.
