Sanderson our only fit centre half will be cup tied our first choice full backs injured. Going to be patched up me thinks
Bollocks! I forgot Sanderson was cup-tied. However, I would rather play a patched up defence in that game than run the risk of bringing one of the injured back too soon. O'Nien will have Vaughan in his pocket anyway. If none of them are fully fit, go with Younger, Power and O'Nien and look to outscore the opposition.
Burge Power.....Younger.....Onien Winchester.....Scowen Jones.....Maguire.....McGeady O'Brien.....Wyke SUBS FROM Patterson..BWright..Flanagan..McFadzean..Vokins..Diamond..Gooch..Neil..Arnold..Curry
Best chance of us winning a cup in my lifetime. Possibly the last realistic one. (Hope not as I’m only 45) Strongest possible. Winning the cup will only instill confidence
If I saw Almond coming towards me I would turn round and run like hell. For a 17yr old he's a big brute..
I wish they'd had some (more?) time in the cup if we're going to play Almond and Younger in the final it's a lot of pressure. Maybe they're the type of characters to thrive in it I've got no idea. We should be ok if the midfield gets stuck in and we can dictate the tempo, no doubt on paper we should outscore them even with a heavily patched up defence. I'd probably go with Power Younger Almond O'Nien Vokins
Does players being cup tied make any sense these days. None of the Sunderland signings were brought in to target the EFL Trophy. It seems to be a legacy from the days before transfer windows.
It does seem a bit daft to me. A player signs for a club and is allowed to play in one competition (the league) but not another (efl cup/trophy), yet both run by the efl. How come a player isn't "league tied". Need to do away with the rule really.
I think it was originally brought in to stop clubs signing the best players, of rivals etc, as they progressed in the FA Cup. It meant a club didn't gain an unfair advantage but it seems pointless these days. There's no good reason why Winchester should be prevented for playing for his club. I think the rule is something that simply hasn't been repealed like allowing commoners to graze cattle within the city walls on a Sunday.
