I am not going to deny there has always been interest in Ipswich Town, ours is a great club with great history and a potentially great future, but please don’t take everything you read in the media as ‘the state of play’. I have had detailed offers for the Club past and present but there has been nothing brand new in the last 12 months, though a number of those with historic interest come back from time to time and there is nothing that is currently acceptable to me or the Club and I reiterate that any decision that needs to be made by me will be based on what is right in the long term. I have said for the last few years that, as new football investors with potentially greater investment pain thresholds than me appear on the scene, if I feel someone is in a better position than me to carry the Club forward with sustained investment, I will step aside. If I have concerns having had unique access to look behind the mask of interested parties, I won’t sell, end of. One thing I can confirm, if I feel there is something to say officially on the matter, you the supporters will be the first to hear from me. But for now, the only focus I have is supporting our new manager and the players in what promises to be an exciting conclusion to the season. Hmmm don't sound too promising to me!
If Evans has signed a non disclosure agreement and this takeover is happening, then surely he can’t confirm it or go into details? That then begs the question of why he issued a public statement which didn’t really address the takeover over than “don’t believe everything you read”. Did he feel like he had to say something? The whole open letter just reads like an attempted defence of his ownership. EDIT: I guess he had to make a statement about hiring Paul Cook, so one way or the other, he had to speak to the supporters? Maybe the takeover isn’t as far advanced as reported, so he’s trying to cover himself it it falls through? Maybe he’s turned it down and thinks Cook will get us promoted and then he can sell it for a bit more next year? Maybe a load of respected journalists and their sources just decided to make it up for a laugh? Either way, I am less optimistic that this takeover is a done deal and that it will happen. But then again, I also won’t be surprised if the takeover gets confirmed over the next couple of weeks and our esteemed leader has signed off with a typically on-brand failure of communication.
It sounds as though he is either in negotiations and angling for a better deal, or our uptick in form has put the brakes on a deal for now.
Perhaps it's similar to what Lee O'Neill was saying the on Monday when he said basically that a managerial appointment wasn't close and ME was going to take his time. The BS coming out of the club at the moment is ridiculous. It certainly was a statement saying I'm being sensible but still investing alot of money in the club, which is fair enough but as I've said there has just not been any consistency in the investment and any real strategy behind it. Why again will we be left with loads of out of contract players in the summer and also others who have been on long contracts who've barely played a game for us. We have a huge squad but an injury prone one, and that is probably part of the reason we have such a big squad, so why not invest in better medical facilities and players who aren't injury prone than taking a risk on injury prone players or doing stuff on the cheap but then having to buy or loan more players to bulk out the squad because of injuries. Thats also part of the reason we were close to the salary cap. His handling of the club has been like the Conservatives handling of this pandemic flip flopping around making complete strategic u turns Spends more money over 2 transfer windows than the proceeding 20 Gets rid of Brian Klug and doesn't appear to put much focus on the academy to suddenly wanting to go category 1 whilst investing barely anywhere else Turning down big money for our best players but then allowing their contracts to run down Going from spending big transfer fees to having none at all and focusing on attracting players on big wages Bringing in experience pros on their last pay days to having a team with barely 500 first team appearances between them. Have Mick McCarthy as manager then suddenly wanting a focus bringing through academy players and playing good football Gets rid of the community trust and then suddenly its very important and brings it back Let's just hope Paul Cook is our vaccine and our way out of this mess
