Shame they didn’t do this as soon as he admitted it. It took the BHA to force their hand. They’ve gone down in my estimation, clearly when Betfair get the decision correct before you do, then you don’t deserve sympathy.

the BHA have made this 10x worse with their 100% PR inspired play, hypocrisy off the charts given their silence and non-action on other issues

seems some are very naive to the treatment of the animals they eat if they think they are treated with more respect than in Elliots yard, there is a mountain of evidence of good treatment to live animals there and that shouldn't be disregarded for a split second picture where proper respect wasnt given to a dead one, they probably have to deal with 5-10 deaths a season in a yard that size, as I said, its business as usual for the people in that situation, its no reflection on their treatment of the 200 others that are alive

elliots crime was being lazy and disrespectful, he was on a phone call when someone else decided to make it a picture

Hello all- having seen the news I had to pop on and get your takes on it. Blimey, what a mess this is for racing.

What it really ought to do is shine a light on the uncomfortable conversations racing refuses to have with itself - and that includes all of the murky corners of the sport across the globe.

Of course there are wonderful people within it too, but for them to shine you need to acknowledge the darkness.

A quote that resonated with me on social media was this:

“The beauty of these majestic creatures will long outlive our cruelty”

What a sad episode for humanity this has been- forget anything else.

Good to hear from you Topclass - what's the reason you haven't been posting much on here of late if you don't mind me asking?

Unscrupulous characters in most sport as you point out. Obviously Elliott took leave of his senses and made a grave mistake. The BBC documentary on boxing the other month was an eye opener with Furys promoter being connected to the criminal underworld and drug dealing..

Wasn’t doing me much good mate having an almost daily interest in racing so left it alone for a while and ventured into my love of other sports.

Still enjoy a Gold Cup day in the pub with family and friends though mate - although of course not this year!

Hope you are all keeping well in these strangest of times.

Covid has shown me how very conservative Germany and the Germans are mate. It has been a real eye-opener. They‘ve also messed up massively with vaccinations by leaving everything to the EU - a lot of anger here at that and it will be interesting to see how the elections go later this year. No more Merkel so everything up for grabs and hopefully the Green Party can get a share of the power.
I’ve decided to leave Rolls-Royce after 25 years (with a nice lump sum) and am weighing up next steps. Exciting times.

    Look after yourself mate <ok>

very well cheers, just missing going racing. Hopefully be back on course soon enough. The whole story this week has been bizarre, and along with the covid situation has made me come to conclusion that this is the least bothered I’ve been about a Cheltenham festival since I started following the sport. All very odd.

What made it all the more disturbing was that the horse not bridled and didn't have a saddle, so when Elliot is astride Morgan it must have been some time after his death. This makes to me that he was fully enjoying toying with the dead horse and it shows absolutely no remorse and absolutely no sense of decency towards animals. Someone who treats the death of an animal is his care as a joke has no place in racing.

Noel and Valerie Moran own that company. Owners of Zanahiyr, The Bosses Oscar etc

Rumours there horses off to Noel Meade mainly and a few other smaller trainers, Cromwell etc

Yep not this year sadly..last year I went on the Wednesday and Friday and I will miss the social side of it this year. Have the 4 days off work but watching it at home this year just won't be the same..

I tend to restrict any betting or watching racing to weekends outside the big festivals as otherwise it becomes too much. Too much of a good thing and all that!

Glad to hear you are keeping well. Enjoy the festival..fingers crossed for some exciting finishes.

I’m sure many on here have seen horses die on track and felt utter sadness, I recall three that really shocked and upset me, two very high profile ones at Cheltenham and one on the flat at Bath of all places. However none of those has upset me like the image this week and that article Pnkt has posted is very close to how I feel.

One of the worst fatalities I saw was Sir Eric in 2019. I remember it well as it was in the first race on the final day of the festival. It was an awful break and put a real dampner on part of the day as it wasn't a pretty sight..

The fact we had about 5 pints before arriving at the track didn't really do much to soften those images. Definite sadness..
