Pompey’s recent underwhelming Fratton form means they are probably pleased to now have successive games on the road.

Ahead of a trip to struggling Northampton at the weekend, Kenny Jackett’s side face fellow promotion chasers Doncaster this evening.

The Blues have three more points and are two places higher in the standings than their sixth-placed opponents.

Rovers do have two games in hand, however, as both sides try to close the gap on Lincoln in second spot.

The hosts were in fine form heading into February, but have failed to win any of their past five fixtures and collected a single point in the process.

They were defeated 2-1 at Ipswich on Saturday, which followed a battling 3-3 draw with Hull in their most recent Keepmoat Stadium contest.

And Doncaster were dealt a further blow when boss Darren Moore – a former Pompey defender – left to take charge of Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

Veteran defender Andy Butler has been named his replacement until the end of the campaign and is also in charge of the club’s women’s team.

A goal from Reece James ensured Rovers claimed all three points at Fratton Park earlier this season, while the Blues triumphed 2-1 in South Yorkshire last term.

    TEAM NEWS
Pompey will be without the injured trio of James Bolton (ankle), Michael Jacobs (hamstring) and Callum Johnson (calf).

Alex Bass requires a scan after injuring his leg for Southend, having joined the League Two side on an emergency loan on Saturday morning.

Ellis Harrison and Tom Naylor suffered knocks against Gillingham at the weekend, but the duo are both available.

Doncaster striker Tyreece John-Jules is out with a hamstring problem and has returned to parent club Arsenal for treatment.

Half time. 1-0 to Doncaster with a 12th minute goal from Lleft back Reece James, assisted by John Bostock who appears to be controlling the midfield.
We could have been a goal up in the first minute with a good chance for Ronan Curtis that went just wide. Marcus Harness got booked in the 15th minute for a foul. Taylor of Doncaster was booked himself for pulling Ronan Curtis by the shirt to stop him breaking away minutes earlier. Taylor then went off injured in the 38th minute to be replaced by Okenabirhe.

We need to change our formation at half time, as not playing as we should be.

Just back from a walk with the dogs. An underwhelming performances reading the text on the match. Something is not quite working which begs me to ask some questions.
    1) Is there a fear factor of Jackett that results in a less than fluid game?
    2) is there a lack of a creative midfielder in the centre of the pitch as neither Naylor not his other partners there so far this season are in that category.
    3) Why are we playing dud strikers? It might be more productive to go with Williams and Curtis as roaming attackers, a central duo of Close and Naylor, with Byers and White providing the width.

Final whistle. 2-1 to Donnies. 2nd goal for them in the 70th minute from Okenabirhie. We pulled a consolation goal back from John Marquis in the 94th minute, from a Marcus Harness cross.

Pompey made a double substitution for the start of the second half, replacing Haji Mnoga and Ronan Curtis with John Marquis and Andy Cannon. Two other substitutions were Lee Brown for Charlie Daniells in the 71st minute, and Jordy Hiwula for Ellis Harrison in the 75th minute.

We didn't deserve anything from the game to be honest, although Marquis's goal was excellent !

Is the pressure of being in the play- off done too much? Dropping out of it a while back has revitalised Sunderland, and now Ipswich have started to exert themselves again. Perhaps a few games outside the zone might reactivate Pompey's Challenge. Thoughts Woopert's?

Really don't know what to say, Ides !... We appear to have lost our way recently..... Can't put my finger on the actual reason why though.... Has Kenny lost the dressing room ? .....Hope we can pull things round quickly, otherwise we will drop out of the play off positions.

I believe that Kenny's contract expires end of this season, and whilst I do like him as a decent person, I hope we let him go end of the season, and look to find someone a bit more dynamic to take over from him.

Just read some comments on Facebook. Not many Jackett admirers there. Some want him gone now, others realise he is there until the end of the season. Suppose he goes, who to get? The Cowleys? Darren Ferguson?

There is certainly no love for him on Facebook, and there hasn't been for some time now !! Replacement manager ? - goodness knows ! Cowley brothers are a good shout, but not Darren Ferguson who is too arrogant for my liking. We need another Harry Redknapp type figure, possibly someone like Eddie Howe, but I very much doubt we could afford him unfortunately. I'm sure that all the usual suspects looking for a job will appear from nowhere if Kenny does depart, but the Eisner family and Chief Exec. Mark Catlin have to make the right decision.

I have read that throughout the ongoing pandemic; with no matchday income as such; the Eisners have had to come up with £700,000 per month to finance the continued running of the club. In 12 months, that totals some £8.4 million ! That shows they are serious about the club. I'm sure they will come up with "the readies" to attract the right manager. We will have to wait and see !
