My first Wembley match too. My schoolfriend had an uncle who was club doctor for a 3rd Division club and he got us the tickets. We met at my uncle's house in Eastcote before the match. He and my cousin were Villa fans.
Sad to see that Glenn Roeder passed away today aged 65 - Brain Tumour, was a decent player at Orient & QPR and I saw him play for and manage the Gills RIP
Nice goal. Shame the Puskas Award will be won by Gareth Bale following his 80 yard slaloming run and finish to win the Europa League against Arsenal
For his his thunderbolt shot? Family rumour has it that I am related to him but nobody recalls what the connection is.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I have seen ex managers who have been away from the game for a while, appear on TV and look so fit and well and relaxed and have clearly benefitted from the time out. Makes you realise the incredible pressure they are always under. Mark Hughes is one more to add to the list. He’s on the MNF this evening looking slim, fit and relaxed and even smiling (there’s a first). Still think he’s a crap manager though .
Circa 2013-2017 he was absolutely phenomenal. Carried this club through a number of those years/ seasons singlehandedly, dread to think what our GD would’ve looked like without him.
Sad to see that Ian St John has died Can just about remember him as a player, but as half of Saint & Greavsie he left an indelible mark on the game. Great player and an ex-player who was actually comfortable and witty in front of the cameras RIP
