Jamal Musial's decision to choose to play for Germany over England appears to have ruffled some feathers. Personally I think it was the right one - he was born there and that should be the end of the matter.

 

Actually I'm eligable to play for Germany or for England BB, but neither team manager has contacted me yet I can actually understand his choice - he plays for Bayern and will probably stay in German club football and they know how to look after and nurture young talent. 17 or 18 year old wonder kids can very quickly become clapped out wrecks in England - I can remember when England beat Germany 5-1 in Munich and Michael Owen had the World at his feet - Miroslaw Klose was the same age as him on the subs bench for Germany. Within a few years it was all turned on it's head and it was Klose who became Germany's number one striker whereas Owen became a walking wreck. This happens all too often - the Germans look after young talent far better and they are not exposed to the same limelight and life style as in England.

 

Having watched his new charges last night, I wonder if he is thinking Karma, Bristol City beat Watford in the playoff final this season?

 

I just find the whole eligibility thing a nonsense. Had my sons had the inclination and the talent, the rules would allow for them to play international football for England, Scotland, Germany or Australia - the thought of them all playing against each other for different countries at a World Cup would have done my head in.

 

Apparently the Southern League has been declared null and void for this season ! So, at one end of the football hierarchy we have two legged football in both the Champions League and Europa League thus increasing TV revenues, fixture congestion and also the chances of Covid 19 spreading, whereas the likes of Taunton FC, King's Langley and Salisbury can twiddle their thumbs and survive as best they can for the foreseeable future.

 

Is a shame - could they have played in the summer when crowds will be allowed?

 

Lee Mason made a fool of himself again it seems !

Totally confused himself and everyone else !

He blew once then again before the ball went in the net which meant VAR had to rule the goal out even though Lee Mason gave it?

 

Almost as bad as the French referee in the England rugby match

Lee Mason told Dunk that he could take the free kick and blew his whistle, but then Mason realised that WBA were not ready because the goalkeeper was standing on the side of the goal and some of their players were turned the other way so the referee blew his whistle a second time before the ball entered the net. VAR confirmed that he had blown his whistle a second time before the ball entered the net, but Mason confused the issue by first disallowing Brighton's goal (from the the free kick), then giving the goal after a discussion with the players before disallowing it after a VAR check.

 

Yes not sure why he gave the goal again!

Gave 2 controversial tries against England basically.

 

Just had a look at them - the first one seemed fair to me, the England players should have been watching & listening for the ref, not standing around chatting.

As for the second one, I attempted many a drop kick like that back in the day - never had a try scored off one of them though...

 

Perhaps it's time I revealed my qualifications to comment on football, namely my first international cap - sadly not yet awarded, and I am not holding my breath.
On the first holiday after our marriage, Mrs J T and I headed off to Amsterdam in our mini traveller with a pile of camping gear and a one page map of europe. Our destination, Zurich , to stay with a college friend and wife - (he also being a devoted WFC supporter, subsequently chairman of Macc Town ) . Upon our arrival, Mike said, immediately, 'Have you brought your boots ?' My dear wife said - 'Don't be silly' , whereupon I produced said boots from under my seat. It transpired I had been selected to play for Mike's (mostly English) University team in a forthcoming league match , replacing one of the regular players , who I had to 'impersonate' (all players had to be registered with the Swiss football authorities. ) They are very correct in Switzerland it's all to do with insurance. And we had a Swiss league referee, no less. So I played my first international in the rain in Zurich, in my favoured left back position , and put in a typical robust performance , including getting booked. Believe me, nothing and nobody got past on the outside. (Paul Robinson learnt everything from me) . The only problem with getting booked was that I couldn't remember who I was supposed to be, but fortunately, not being able to speak Swiss-German, my teammates helped me out. We drew. My colleague I'd replaced was rather miffed at getting booked without even playing but there you go.

 

Yes - think the 2nd one was certainly not a try.

First was a bit like that West Brom/Brighton free kick but the opposite decision.

Taken quickly - this was allowed but the Brighton one wasn't allowed!
