We were great early season , United were crap. We were crap mid season, United improved out of sight. We have been resolute, but dull since Audi, United have been all over the shop.
We have rarely played impressive attacking football all season, United have played some great attacking Football, and some dross.
    So now what??
I see big differences in approach. OGS has sorted his team and chosen his best starters , subject to injury and tiredness. He has one fabulous talisman, Fernandes, who has transformed his team, and we don't.
Audi has played our experienced players most of the time, with a couple of cameos by the kids,( apart from CHO and Mount. ) We have no player who's turns games, wins games or dominates games, and are searching for some signs of him among the 200 million we have spent.
Audi has ignored Gilmour, Ziyech, Pulisic, Havertz and Stillwell, all players most of us think are our future and our best talent.
If that's not safety first by Audi, then what is? He has done what he was bought to do and good luck to him, he has improved our stats and his reputation, but he hasn't improved our play or our scoring by one iota. We are still dull and underperforming, but more solid, no more and no less. Transformation to a dangerous attacking team is what I was hoping for, but no longer expecting to see.
Audi knows he has an unbalanced, squad, with three "red flag warning" positions, namely CD, creative midfield, and striker, and I think he will just carry on until seasons end, when I think he will be brutal and pragmatic and bring in three great players at equally great expense, selling maybe 6 to balance the books. I would be worried if I was CHO, Abraham, Pulisic, Alonso, Dave, Zouma, Jorginho, Ziyech, or Emerson. Havertz and Werner are safe, but I'd leave if I was Gilmour or Anjorin, and forget about ever making the squad if I was Gallagher Gheuri, or any loanee.
Audi has to win, and knows he has only 15 months left, so he won't waste time with players with "potential", instead going for proven players. In other words, back to the future. He is at Chelsea and knows his time is already running out no matter what he achieves.
As for United, this is what I expect,
    Mendy,
    Dave, Christensen, Rudiger,
    James, Kovacic, Jorginho, Alonso
    Mount , Giroud, Werner,

    This is what Id play
    Mendy
    James Zouma, Rudiger
    CHO Kante, Gilmour Mount
    Havertz, Werner, Pulisic

Actually could be a season defining game as things stand. Indeed the next three games may well be, as they are all against teams that are in or around our position. CP. I don't think it is Time to be over critical of Tuchel until he has has time to impart his ideas on the squad. We have seen a slight improvement in results and the same with how we play but are not the finished article by any means, prospecting on the future of Tuchel is not what we need now. All I know is we need to win on Sunday, should we do so top 4 is still in sight, take every game as it is win or lose move on to the next KTBFFH.

Actually I think Tuchel is going well, can you believe that Marina was going to bring back Sarri !!!!!!
Tuchel is just the man to keep us in the top 4 race starting with a win or a draw with Utd. He's managed that every game, though this is a step up in intensity.
My post was prompted by widespread reports stating RA has approved an even bigger spend for seasons end, and Tuchel identified some very big names as targets.
In any event, it's Utd we have to worry about for now, would love to see us go at them and roll them.

I think Tuchel is an extremely talented young manager with bags of potential, there's tons of emotion involved because of who he's replaced. But logically he will be a success at Chelsea, he's done well everywhere he's been.

Depends which United turns up but I’m hoping for a narrow win.

Jesus CP. Tuchel has been in charge for a month and brought in mid-season with no preseason training to implement his ideas

    Give him a chance FFS!

And Mount, our in-form attacking midfielder, at wing back!!!

Oleball was always going to be served, Tuchel would have been mad to not kill this game off.

If you give these lot a chance to play it they can be lethal.

I haven't said anything about Tuchel except the obvious, he's doing exactly what he was bought in for, stop the losing and get us into top 4. He's obviously thought that too many inexperienced players is not the way to go, and has largely played the old guard, which has worked well, with just CHO and Mount for energy. The result is we have toughened up and stopped the rot. We have not scored more goals nor played great football, because the old guard can't do either, that's why Frank bought in players and played more youngsters.Franks ideas needed more time, and Tuchel hasn't got time either with RA looking over his shoulder.
Tuchel will make his real mark next season. and IF, the big Chelsea IF, RA gives him time, he should be extremely successful , as he has been all his career.

As for the game, a bit of a grind, not a lot of luck in front of goal, United really only dangerous on quick breakaways, but well defended by us each time. We were slightly the better team in my book, but those goals just won't go in.
Has Reece James bulked up or do I need new glasses??

Update......Palace drew 0-0 as we did. Are we as crap as Palace or Scummers just having a bad run? Add on... The only point Saints have won in the last 6 games is against us. Yet we have the best defensive record bar City. Its a funny old game. I'm off now to start a thread for tomorrows game against the new enemy.
