Thanks to Terry of the upper loft I got alerted to Ned Onuoha's pod cast "Kickback" Last night was a glorious hour with Ale Faurlin. Ale was and is the most outstanding footballer and human being. They discussed Adel, and did say how the feel he has wasted his best years.. But the bombshells were later on about Arry Redknapp, who I did not much like but he has now plummeted to the depths. Story 1 was told by Ned that after his mother had died (Ned was really close to his mother if you remember), he was in Manchester arranging the funeral on compassionate leave, and he got a phone cal from Arry. "You must come back, I need you, the team needs you, you must come back". So he did and was taken back up north (to Wigan?) for the match and was an unused sub on the bench Story 2. After Ale Faulins 3rd ACL injury against Burton in a cup tie, remember Arry never put out what he considered his strongest teams in cup ties. The physio came on to the coach as they were leaving, with Ale going to hospital to say Ale Faulin is OK. Redknapp was heard to say..."Oh that's a shame". Ned said he lost all respect at that moment, and never regained it. Ned also said from the moment he arrived, Redknapp was not interested, left everything to the coaches, (McLarin) barely was on the training pitch, left things to his senior players (Barton). More interested in the media and the limelight.. Beats me why we kept him on, I assume he had a good and waterproof contract. What we blew away with Arry and Sparky...so sad
Thanks Vern, I’ll take a look. I think Sparky is just an odd individual and can’t help that, so I don’t much feel any ill towards him. Redknapp, on the other hand, is one of those cunning ****ers who’s managed to cultivate a cuddly uncle TV persona whilst actually being an unpleasant and odious individual. I don’t much care for his preening tit of a son either.
If people knew the real story of what some of these managers are like they wouldn’t get so much adulation. I know many at Rangers have a massive ‘love in’ with a certain other manager we had......sadly that ain’t for me
I can believe all of that. That promotion winning season was so bizarre. Getting promoted whilst playing crap football all season. His coaching seemed to be nothing more than "go on lads, get out there and play." We got promoted because we had some of the best players in the league, nothing more.
No not at all mate......it’s sad that those old time managers are corrupt and make money from young players (which is well known in football circles).....but are still seen as characters of the game and are applauded. Some stories would shock
Oh we are digging up the dirt aren't we?! Probably the single worst error Tony Fernandes ever made was not sacking Harry after Wembley. With a proper manager, a few judicious signings (not a very QPR thing to do at the time), who knows what might have happened. Do they have appraisals, 360 deg feedback etc in football clubs? If they had, the likes of Harry should be found out sooner.
