Blimey, today Police in NT have stopped a car going into a dry area at Arnhem Land with a load of alcohol. Dry Areas?
Is that draconian or is it a native thing?

    Think it's Captain Cook's idea.

It’s something that has been happening for decades. There is a huge problem with indigenous Australians and alcohol and associated crime and disorder. So the governments of each state and territory designate certain remote areas as dry meaning that no alcohol is allowed in. That in itself creates its own black market.
Is it draconian? Possibly, but with the large amount of them incarcerated due to alcohol related incidents and not to mention the effect it has on health, something had to be done.

My brother in law’s brother in law was a policeman in Australia and was shot in the face and killed! My brother in law moved over there shortly after he was shot and lives on the Gold Coast now and he agrees with you about the amount of gun crime although he’s lucky enough not to have been involved in any!
